Alabama Football: Crimson Tide Nov. 5 Clash with LSU To Shape BCS Bowl Landscape

On November 5th, 2011, the college football season is going to drastically change.

The currently No. 1 LSU Tigers take on the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide in a game that will determine the BCS Bowl picture and very possibly affect the BCS National Championship Game.

These two SEC powerhouses will meet in Tuscaloosa and whoever comes out on top will have the inside track to the National Championship Game and the No. 1 ranking, assuming they are both undefeated going in.

‘Bama opened their SEC schedule against No. 14 Arkansas and handily beat them, looking every bit as deserving of a No. 1 ranking this week as LSU. They travel to take on No. 12 Florida in the Swamp next week and have to get past Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Tennessee after that before taking on the Tigers.

LSU has done a ton already to prove themselves this season, with a huge season-opening win against No. 3 Oregon and back-to-back road wins against ranked Mississippi State and West Virginia.

They need to get past Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn before they face the Crimson Tide, but I believe that the Tigers and Alabama are both good enough to make it to November unscathed.

If that is the case, this will be one of the most significant matches in recent history, given the stakes.

Each team will only have three games left against relatively easy opponents and the winner should take part in the SEC Championship Game, which will put them right on the cusp of the National Title match.

I expect both Les Miles and Nick Saban to have their squads well prepared and focused each and every week and to have their players’ minds off the looming match between the two dominant programs.

I also expect the winner of that game to take part in the BCS National Championship Game and most likely win it, so get ready for an epic game on Nov. 5.
