Week 3 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: 3 Usual Backups Who Should Start

Michael MillJun 7, 2018

It's hard for fantasy football owners to realize when they have a gem sitting on the bench for a particular start.

Isn't it the worst feeling when you see the stats roll across the bottom of your screen and you see your benched running back ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns?

Here are three usual backups who you should start in Week 3.

RB Shonn Greene (New York Jets)

Shonn Greene has turned out to be quite the disappointment for the New York Jets.

For a team that loves to run the ball, they really don't have an every-down back capable of putting up the numbers.

This weekend may be one of the few this season that they do.

The Jets are facing the Oakland Raiders this weekend. The Raiders are currently allowing 7.1 yards per carry on the ground to opposing offenses, the worst in average in the NFL.

It may be a good week to take a chance on Greene, even if it's only at the flex position.

RB Thomas Jones (Kansas City Chiefs)

Up until this week, the running back to start in Kansas City was Jamaal Charles.

Typically, Jones is good for a couple points each week but he doesn't put up enough to start weekly.

Now that Charles is out for the season, Jones could see an increase in carries. Some of the carries may go to Dexter McCluster, but I think Jones will become the primary ball carrier.

He still may not put up fantastic numbers, but this does make him a solid pick if you are in need of a running back.

WR David Nelson (Buffalo Bills)

You know, one of the two big receivers on the top scoring offense in the NFL.

Most people haven't even heard of David Nelson, but he is someone you need to start on your team this week. Go pick him up now.

Nelson has 14 receptions for 149 yards over the first two weeks of the season where Buffalo has shocked the league.

The Bills play the Patriots this weekend. The Patriots are going to score a lot so the Bills will likely be passing to keep up.

New England also boasts the 31st ranked passing defense after two weeks of action.

All signs point to a heck of a game for Steve Johnson and David Nelson. Nelson isn't a starter most days, but this week he's a guy you should pay attention to.
