Top Five Teams Donovan McNabb Should Play for in 2009

Chung LeeNov 24, 2008

Minnesota Vikings

Obviously, this is all dependent upon whether Brad Childress is still the head coach next year. If so, the Vikings would be the most logical team for McNabb. For one, Brad Childress groomed McNabb during all those NFC championship runs and the one Super Bowl appearance of McNabb's career.

But aside from familiarity with the head coach and the offensive system, pair McNabb with the NFL's most dangerous playmaker and see how effective McNabb can be with a legitimate play-action threat.

At this point in McNabb's career, his streakiness is too detrimental for an offense, and he no longer has the legs to overcome poor passing performances to make that one big play. Give McNabb the stability of an Adrian Peterson focused offense. Plus, the Vikings desperately need some veteran leadership.

Chicago Bears

Give McNabb a chance to return to his hometown. When was the last time the Bears had an accomplished Pro-Bowl quarterback? If you put McNabb in a situation where the defensive is the core of the team, and couple that with an up and coming star in Matt Forte, then you have yourself a pretty decent team. And having Devin Hester returning punts doesn't hurt, either.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

How does Jon Gruden do it? He consistently fields competitive teams year in and year out, with very few playmakers. Plus, Gruden only wins with veteran quarterbacks—Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, and now Jeff Garcia. If only Cadillac Williams and Earnest Graham can come back healthy for 2009, then you have the perfect storm for another Super Bowl contender.

Arizona Cardinals

Not likely, but McNabb does like the dry heat of Arizona. For this to happen, the Cardinals would have to finally trade Leinart, probably keep Warner, and have McNabb and Warner fight it out. All I can say is that the ONE time McNabb had a bona fide superstar at wide receiver, the Eagles went to the Super Bowl easily. Last I checked, the Cardinals have two superstar receivers.

Philadelphia Eagles

Keep McNabb, draft a tight end, sign a veteran fullback, and someone talk to Andy Reid about his pass-first system. Adapt your offense. The league has reverted back to a power-running game (Titans, Giants, etc) so that means your pass-first mentality becomes more risky.
