Ron Artest is one of the most enigmatic players in the NBA. He draws attention to him for more than simply his play on the court.

Artest is a player that has never shied away from the limelight.

When Ron Artest announced that he was going to change his name to Metta World Peace was it something that people thought was out of character?

No, it really is not something out of character. But the meaning behind it is.

Ron Artest is known by many as the man that jumped into the stands and started assaulting a fan while he was playing for the Indiana Pacers.

It is a moment that will forever directly contradict the man who is known as Metta World Peace.

Artest sees the name change as a way to send a positive message to the world.

It is a great thought but Metta needs to remember that actions speak louder than words. While the man formerly known as Ron Artest is sending a message that will be heard around the world no one will fully believe him until he speaks through actions.

Metta World Peace has done goodwill trips to Africa to feed the children there. He has also been very active in his hometown community and spoken to kids across the nation.

Many would never question a man’s philanthropy. Good gestures are good gestures no matter how a man spins it.

With a name like Metta World Peace he has a lot to live up to.

Metta World Peace is a huge label and he has a lot to live up to.

Artest is sending a message certainly loud and clear but what people think of it is still to be determined.

Is Artest ready to live up to the title of Metta World Peace or will it go down as one of the most interesting publicity stunts ever? Only time will tell but, here’s to a man whose gutsy move is signaling an attempt at bettering himself.
