WWE Night of Champions 2011: Air Boom Will Retain Against The Miz and R-Truth

With the WWE Night of Champions right around the corner one of the more interesting matches will be for the tag team titles (for the first time in a long time). While The Miz and R-Truth seem to have the momentum, it will be the team of Air Boom that will walk away from Buffalo, N.Y. as champions.

Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne have been a tag team for nearly a month and have gone over great with fans, especially the younger demographic. The combination of high-flying moves and fast-paced matches trumps their lack of mic skills for the audience.

The company has gone through the trouble of letting the WWE Universe name the team and, although they made a pretty terrible choice, it's starting to catch on. Air Boom also has their own TitanTron video and new tandem entrance.

That would've been a lot of work for 26 days as champions.

However, the main reason they will retain the title, is actually The Miz and R-Truth. Both guys have been given solid pushes lately playing the outsider role and, even though they are being promoted as a tag team, they have been picking up singles victories in recent weeks.

There is obviously a bigger plan for all of the conspiracy theorists that will start picking up during the road to Survivor Series in November. By allowing them to become champion, wouldn't that take away their main point of contention for the next two months?

By feuding with Air Boom for the last few weeks, it has allowed the two guys (who are really main event talents) to stay relevant without having to get the Subway guy, Jared Fogle, involved.

There are bigger things on the horizon for both members of the Awesome Truth and winning the WWE Tag Team Championships would be counterproductive toward reaching the ultimate goal.

David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty held the titles for 91 days and the fans couldn't have cared less during their matches. Air Boom gets a huge reaction and are due for a long reign of their own.

The tag team titles are still of the mid-card level even though it appears the division has been getting a boost lately. Kingston and Bourne are much better suited at that level, where the matches can be kept short and the mic time is minimal, as opposed to Miz and Truth.

Thanks to bigger plans for the dissenters, Air Boom will leave the First Niagara Center with the WWE Tag Team Championships around their waist, giving The Miz and R-Truth something else to complain about moving forward.
