Joey Porter: They Were Just Dogs!

Dolphin linebacker Joey Porter, stated to reporters they were just dogs, referring to Michael Vicks dog fighting  business. He went on to say that no one cares about Pit Bulls as a breed and Michael Vick should be left alone and be allowed to play football having done his sentence.

Profootball.com has also reported that Joey Porter , who owns pit bulls, turned his dog loose on a minature horse, who was killed by his dog!

Porter also stated that he cannot travel on flights with his dogs without lying about what kind of breed his dogs are.

Joey, people know what pit bulls look like. Now, you will have to drive them places as you stated what a fool and a liar you are.

Keep flapping your gums, Joey! I hope you talk your way right out of football. You and Michael Vick are cut out of the same mold. Ignorant thugs with no feeling or compassion for breathing ,living creatures, who are helpless to your idiotic whims.

You have joined Michael as a despicable human being, who should not have the priviledge of entertaining fans, children, and families in our great country!

You are a prime example of everything that is wrong with people and society as a whole when indulged and catered to like a spoiled little child.

The Miami Dolphins should do the right thing and suspend you for the season for if nothing else, having no class!

You are nothing more than a thug in a uniform and I can only hope what goes around comes around!

The NFL should be very worried about theit image with people like you in the league. There should be an investigation about the alledged accusations of animal cruelty that have now surfaced.

The United States District Attorney has stated more facts about Michael Vick's actions in this horible cruelty case. Vick took part in letting helpless family pets in the ring with the fighting dogs as entertainment to him and his cronies.

Also stated, was Vick repeatedly slamming one dog on the ground over and over killing it for under performing in the fighting ring,as well as taking part in hangings and electrocutions of other animals.

Seriously,when is enough , enough!?

A brief note about Pit Bulls ! They are large dogs, like German Sherpards, or Rottweilers, or any other large breed of dog. They have powerful jaws, they are fiercly territorial, and contrary to popular opinion are very good loyal family dogs.

They protect your house, children, and those that are close to them. Like any other dog, they do not like strange dogs in their home or food area.

They learn how to fight other dogs in a ring like setting from people. People are the biggest problem with this breed of dog. Irresponsible people with aggressive tendencies and no social skills!  Basically, mean spirited people who can't exist without trying to feel important in their own small way!

I can no longer pick a team with players like this to win! They are losers in the biggest sense of the word. I had the Dolphins to win this week, but I will not root for this team to win against anyone, while they put up with idiotic statements from their players.

I am a New England Patriot fan this week! No more will I write how the Dolphins are progressing into a good football team.

As long as Porter remains a Dolphin, I wish them bad luck!

I will write a letter to the league office imploring the NFL to impose a lifetime ban on Michael Vick ever returning to football. There is no place for people like Vick and Porter in our great game of football!

It's one thing to say you have a problem and try to work things out, as far as drugs  or alcohol is concerned, but I for one am sickened by cruel inhumane treatment of helpless animals who depend on man for thier food, life and shelter.

Dogs are called man's best friend for a reason. Every day there are stories of bravery and animals that rescue, help the blind and crippled, and only want some attention and affection from people.

We as people, are letting our poor animals down when we let idiots like this behave for their own selfish cruel needs.

My name is Thomas Michael Moreland, I live in Labelle, Florida and I am calling you a worthless no good punk, Joey Porter! I hope karma jumps up and bites you in the ass one day!

The Miami Dolphins are now a second class organization in my eyes because of you, Joey Porter. I hope New England kicks your ass!

I do agree that Porter is doing the wrong thing by showing support for Vick, he is not looking to smart.

Vicks needs to learn to stop running his mouth for his own good, and I fully agree that his opinion and actions in dog fighting is disgusting, but lets be real people... this is a game of football, which involves the participation of no dogs. Vicks has a talent in football and has faced his sentence. His morals can make him an not well liked person, but does not take his talents as a football player away.

I completely agree with your assessment on the high quality family dog that pits are. I also agree with your assessment that the wrong people owning pits are what have given them such a terrible stigma. In addition, as a dolphin fan I am completely disgusted with Porter's admission to his role in the death of a horse by his pit.

But are you really telling me that what Michael Vick did is any worse than the drug possessions of famous players a la Michael Irvin, Matt Jones, etc.? Absolutely not! Maybe I'm going off the deep end here, but historically, drugs have had a far worse negative impact on society than dogfighting. Especially when so many kids view NFL athletes as role-models. But then again, who knows, maybe we'll have a huge epidemic on our hands in the future when kids leave their crystal-meth for dogfights in their backyard. That's the day when we'll know our country is doomed, right?

I am a Dolphins fan as well, but i'm going to have to disagree with you on this one Jeff. Dogfighting includes killing innocent animals. While drugs may be more harmful to people, the doer of the drug chose to do the drug (I am not saying either is good.)

The mentality of a drug addict or recreational drug user can be overcome with counseling, changes in life style, changes in association of bad infuences, and of course medications such as prometa or other therapys. The mentality of Porter and Vick seems more of some control issue s or even to put it bluntly, like an insane person, similiar to a serial killer. They have to be in control or they spiral slowly out of control resulting in horrific crimes. cruel children who maim and kill animals at 1st come to mind. prety soon the thrill is gone and they move up to people, hence becoming serial killers later in life. The torture of animals by adults shows a sickness that maybe can t be fixed! You don t let insane killers back out on the street even when they show remorse for their actions. They are insane without strong medication they will kill again. So they stay behind bars monitored for the rest of their lives. What do we get from these sports figures that act like this? Oj Simpson obviously has control issues! Lashing out on those that are taking that control away is one behavior as we have seen over the yeras of his post football days. What do these creeps do when their football days are over? Im sure this isn t the last we will hear from Porter or Vick. They might turn into murderers or criminals also! When we let people like this play in our league for the kids to watch, it basically ok s this idiotic behavior. Let future thugs know this will not be tolerated by society any more. Get rid of these guys and send a message to everyone else!!! Killing helpless animals is much more serious than taking drugs!!! It shows a sickness to hurt others , not just yourself.

i replied to your comment and paul s too. see my reply in the comment section! We will see if the league shrugs this off or does something abour porter. i hope animal activists and the aspca investigates Porter a little closer and a suspension happens, but i doubt it! I m rooting for Adam Jones to recover and become a good player for Dallas and more importantly a better person. If that happens, we shall see! You HAVE to want to change, it does not just happen magically!!! Will prison change Michael Vick? I have my doubts! I think he needs medication for mental problems and therapy for quite a long time to somehow work out control and anger issue s!! thomas apparently Porter too!

Yea, I understand your points but definitely do not agree. Kids are much more likely to do drugs because their favorite player has been busted doing them then they're likely to go rounding up the strays around the neighborhood and pitting them against each other. Believe me, I am a dog lover, and a pit owner. People like Vick make me sick in how they treat pits. Irresponsible pit bull owners are the reason pits have such a terrible stigma. That being said, there's not an ounce of my body that thinks what he did is any worse than another player getting a drug possession charge. That's largely due to the small impact dogfighting has on our society.

Here's the thing... Michael Vick is a sociopath -- tossing family pets into a ring with killer pit bulls is prima facie evidence of that. Drug use can be symptomatic of various ills, as well as rebellious or "outlaw" tendencies. Often drug abusers can be rehabilitated successfully. But sociopaths cannot, just as pedophiles cannot.

Michael Vick should be banned from the NFL for life; there is no "second chance" for sociopaths. In an ideal world, he should have to wear an ankle bracelet for life and be banned from being in the vicinity of animals, just as convicted pedophiles are banned from being in the vicinity of schools, and other facilities where children congregate.

Joey Porter should be banned from playing for at least the rest of the season, and should be required to undergo severe "retraining" before consideration even is given to his reinstatement.

I have no personal beef with pit bulls; I know they can be excellent family pets if raised properly. I do have objections to persons like Michael Vick or Joey Porter expressing through their words and/or deeds pathology clearly antithetical to common social norms.

When you do drugs you're only hurting yourself (if anyone). When you watch two animals fight to the death for recreation, that's something else.

To even use casual drug users and these vicious murderers in the same context is ridiculous and stupid to the point of absurdity. Steroids? Concussions? Painkillers? These may be contributing factors in building a killer. Idiots like Porter have been handed everything in life and hold no regard for anyone or anything. From the moment in High School when his coaches knew he'd be goin' to college ball and further he's never had to write tests, work for a living, or be accountable for his actions or words. How can we expect these players to act any differently?
As a dolphin fan I am truly outraged. As a human being I am not surprised.
I will not watch another dolphin game as long as Porter is around.
I cannot chear for a team that employs a "person" that should be locked away for all of our safety.

    Great article by Thomas Moreland.
The NFL should not support sadistic and psychopathic players/coaches/management.
Elsewhere, it's unfortunate that the District Attoney allowed Vick's Atlanta Falcon teammate, Jonathan Babineaux, to get away with abusing and killing his girlfriend's dog. Other NFL players charged/convicted of animal abuse are Tank Johnson, Leshon Johnson, Thomas Hamner and also Damon Moore for abandoning his puppy in a soccer field.

I have read the articles written in response to behavior of Michael Vick and Joey Porter. In my opinion, drug users and people who promote dog fighting can't be compared nor can we make diagnoses without a thorough clinical assessment of each individual. Generally, both of those behaviors are ILLEGAL, so what is central is looking at the individual who is willing to take risks and engage in what is not legal. True, drug abusers hurt themselves while those who promote and train dogs to become vicious hurt others. Both are self defeating and people who engage in either of those behaviors need help. They are getting their own needs met in an unhealthy way. When they are sports celebrities they are certainly setting an example for the younger generation and children who want to emulate them. Yes, you would think given that fact they would choose to act responsibly. But then people do not always act responsibly. The key word is choice-- The drug user uses because he wants to use - the animal abuser abuses because this is what he chooses to do. Usually the consequences of his behavior will act as a deterrent if something he values is taken away. Ending with the thought that the most difficult thing any of us have to do is to look at ourselves. The more significant the problems, the deeper we must look. Change can only happen when we choose it!
My son, Mike made the correct call! Pittsburgh dumped Joey Porter because of his behavior --maybe if he was kicked off of another team, he might begin to look!!

Drug users can pass into the stage of addict , where they have no control over using drugs without medical intervention. This is recognized by the AMA as a true disease. Drug addiction is a disease.

Michael Vick's addiction to dog fighting for over 8 years is something he enjoys, exhibited with pride, and loved doing. That includes the drowning, electrocuting, shooting, and God knows what else. Now we find out the fact that he threw family pets into the ring for fun. Anyone in the FBI profile department would tell you these are strong indicaters that he is a narcissistic psychopath.

The lack of respect both Joey Brooks and Michael Vick have for dogs, or capability for empathy for animals in general shows they are severely disturbed. Neither one of them should be wearing an NFL jersey, EVER. These are not role models or citizens that society wants running free, much less in any kind of public position to influence youth.

Dog Fighting has become epidemic in ATL after the Vick case. Instead of wanting to be successful like Michael Jordan, kids here want to be 'gangsta' like Vick.

I hope the NFL is reading this blog. Get this: There are millions of American dog lovers - and we all hate Vick. If you ever, ever let him play again, any team he is on, will be boycotted and protested against. How many Vick lovers are there compared to dog lovers? The book "Marley and Me" was a best seller, and it will be a blockbuster X-mas movie. Could Vick or Joey Brooks open a movie? No, but dogs can. Roger Goodall, do your job. Tell Vick he is banned for life. Raiders, we are already starting a campaign world wide to boycott you and anything with a Raider logo is you hire Vick.

Vick gets a secong chance just by being alive and free. Unlike the poor dogs he fought to death or murdered.

Brooks says 'they were only dogs' and I say 'they were only thug NFL players'.

Haha. Guess what? Joey Porter doesn't give a damn about your opinion. You're just some kid writing angry online editorials about a millionaire who is living the dream. Joey Porter makes his living playing a violent game, he's a violent person and yea, his opinion is probably wrong but it's his opinion. Let him have it.

He's not hurting any humans and what's the difference between this and killing chickens so you can have your KFC?

Stop being such a whiner and go out and try to accomplish as much as Joey Porter has in life, then maybe he will care and take serious your opinion.

haha guess what? this is the dumbest comment i ve ever recieved on an article. 1st of all if you went to the trouble of looking at someone s profile you would know how old they were. i m 53. not exactly some kid, as you put it. 2nd,Joey Porter gets paid by the Miami Dolphins and if keeps it up he will be looking for another job, and teams get tired of the antics of spoiled, big mouth players. 3rd ,, i rescue abused and stray dogs, i currently have 9 and volunteer at a wildlife santuary on the weekends sometimes. my life is rich and full and i accomplish plenty! i would venture to say you might want to think about your own life, having such a shallow opinion! 4TH, IF you think eating chicken relates to having a dog kill an innocent minature horse, body slamming a dog to its death, or hanging and electrocuting defenseless animals its you that have mental issues! I write about issues that i feel strong about and i write about football and other sports, and i write to hopefully inform people, without as you put it whining! he can certainly have his opionion, as you can have yours, but opinions are like ass-----. everyone has one , and most of them stink! Most of the editorials i write are warm and humerous at times. This is only the 2nd article i ve written putting down players in the nfl , and it s allways the same type of players! Your right, Joey doesn t care about anything or anyone but himself! What have you accomplished Mike James< ? besides letting everyone on Bleacher Report know you don t value animals lives very highly! Obviously you ve never felt the warm love and devotion a good dog can provide! OH , he can have his opinion, but when it sucks ,i will let as many people as i can know about it! The dolphins lost a few fans already, if you ve read any comments on this article. Your the only negative comment on the article. Does that tell you anything? Probably not! Have a nice day in spite of yourself! Thomas

Just thought you'd like to know your blog is making the rounds in the rescue-trenches. My friend, an Animal Control Officer here in WI, sent it to me. Thanks for doing the Lord's work. Sadly, "penalties" handed down by myopic judges only echo Porter's mindset. Part of the criminal justice system should involve prevention, not merely retribution, and (I'm sure your mother has told you) people who commit these atrocities against animals are too readily released to escalate their sociopathic behavior. (Witness what's happening this morning w/ Vick--and WTF, Goodell?!) And just maybe, folks in the public eye, be they politicians, rock stars, or professional athletes, need to be held to a higher standard of conduct or suffer the consequences (permanent ostracism and obscurity). Dogfighting is a violent crime. Period.

Sorry my Packers stunk up the S-Dome last night, but, from the other side of my brain (and on behalf of my other favorite team)--Geaux Saints!

all dogs are supposed to licensed with rabies tags anyway in most places!! i don t think you have to license any one particular breed, any dog can be trained to be vicious and fight! pits just have powerful jaws and are lock jaw and shake kind of dogs, it s hard to get a pit off something once it latches on! some counties in florida there is apit bull ban,, but thats kinda silly! any big dog can be dangerous with an irresponsible owners. I n san francisco a pet owner got 20 yrs because her rottreilers killed someone! The sad thing in this article is about the people with lack of feelings and down and out viciousness towards animals for their own little cheap thrills! these are people with a lot of money, who should be great examples to success in football, but chose to be thugs instead! Mike JAMES is right in his comment, Joey Porter doesn t care what people think! Thats part of the problem! I will always be on the side of helpless creatures, not these primadonna jerks who need to take a close look at themselves. I wonder what Michael Vicks and Joey Porters parents think? I bet they are not proud of their children lately! thomas

Thomas, Ooops you are right. I got so angry I forgot Joey the thug's last name is Porter. Please go on Yahoo News and Buzz up this article where Poindexter hugs Vick's mom after the charges are dropped for animal cruelty in VA. Please buzz this story up, and leave comments. Once again Vick said he was sorry to everyong except the dogs he murdered. He still doesn't understand or care about their pain or suffering, and he never will. Roger Goodell would be insane to allow this scum bag to play in the NFL again.

Great Article. I agree with everything there. Pitt bulls can be very sweet dogs, and are also very loyal, which sometimes is not good. They do whatever the owner says basically so sadly there are people like Michael Vick and Joey Porter that train them to be mean and bad, they will listen. I have lost all respect for Michael Vick and Porter and Porter should be suspended for AT LEAST 1 game. Vick should never be allowed to play in the NFL, CFL or Arena Football or wherever he wants to play.
