Florida State-Maryland: FSU Creating Nole-Out with 21-0 Halftime Lead

Chris WhitmoreCorrespondent INovember 22, 2008

FSU opened up the second quarter at the Maryland seven with 2nd-and-goal and threw an incomplete pass to Corey Surrency.

FSU is on the board with a seven yard touchdown pass from Ponder to Preston Parker.  The Seminoles have not been the first to score since their 31-28 loss to Georgia Tech on Nov. 1.

7-0, FSU.

Maryland began their first drive of the second quarter to a deep ball to Darius Heyward-Bay but FSU cornerback Patrick Robinson swatted the ball away which is something FSU knows they will have to do a lot in the game as Heyward-Bay should be getting a lot of passes thrown towards him.

And Maryland has their first three-and-out of the game at 13:49 left to go in the second.

Rolle is within sight of Byrd Stadium, as the police that are escorting him just radioed in stating they can see the lights of the stadium.

Myron Rolle has just arrived and was greeted outside of the stadium by his emotional mother who is clearly proud of her accomplished son. He waved to the FSU crowd and entered the visitor’s locker room to dress for the game.

FSU defensive end Everette Brown forced a fumble that was recovered by linebacker Derek Nicholson who returned the turnover 25 yards for a touchdown.  Brown is already making his presence felt in this game with a sack in the first quarter and now the fumble.

14-0, FSU.

Maryland turned the ball over for the second series in a row as Kenny Ingram intercepted a pass by Maryland’s Chris Turner.

Florida State could not capitalize on the interception as the Maryland defense forced a three and out but FSU punter Graham Gano landed a punt inside the 10-yard line.

Myron Rolle has exited the FSU locker room with 6:23 left in the second to a standing ovation from the FSU fans. FSU personnel and players on the sidelines are taking their turns congratulating Myron as FSU fans can be heard chanting “Let’s Go Rolle.”

Everette Brown assisted on a sack with Neefy Moffet. Maryland’s defense has no answer on how to stop Brown.

After Maryland drove down to the Maryland 43 and then Florida State committed a 15 yard personal foul penalty, Maryland’s Turner threw another interception and FSU’s Toddrick Verdell it to the Maryland 30.

Maryland already has three turnovers before halftime: two interceptions and a fumble.

Antone Smith rushed three yards for a Seminole touchdown.  FSU has not lost a game this season when Smith has a touchdown.

21-0, FSU.

Rolle takes the field for the first time as a Rhodes Scholar.

Brown has his third sack of the night against Maryland.

Maryland’s offensive line has become a turnstile for FSU defenders as FSU linebacker Derek Nicholson recorded FSU’s fifth sack on the night on Turner.

FSU took a knee to end the half.

FSU is turning Maryland's Blackout into a Nole-Out with a dominating defense that has FSU going into halftime with a 21-0 lead.
