It's not the easiest thing in the world to pick an England XI without picking players from England elite clubs i.e. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. But I've decided that if Fabio Capello can't then I can!
What would you do without the luxury of picking Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard?
Don Fabio, I've slid in some substitute options and that's right, No Gerrard, No Lampard, No Terry, No Ferdinand, and No Rooney.
Goal Keeper : David James (Portsmouth)
Joe Hart (Manchester City)
Right Back : Glen Johnson (Portsmouth)
Luke Young (Aston Villa)
Center Back : Micah Richards (Manchester City)
- B/R Ticket Guide
Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur)
Center Back : Joleon Lescott (Everton)
Matthew Upson (West Ham United)
Left Back : Nicky Shorey (Aston Villa)
Leighton Baines (Everton)
Right Midfield : Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur)
Shaun Wright Phillips (Manchester City)
Center Midfield : Jimmy Bullard (Fulham)
Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham Hotspur)
Centre Midfield : Gareth Barry (Aston Villa)
Scott Parker (West Ham United)
Left Midfield : Ashley Young (Aston Villa)
Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough)
Right Forward : Darren Bent (Tottenham Hotspur)
Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
Left Forward : Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur)
Emile Heskey (Wigan Athletic)
Ben Foster, Tom Huddlestone, Ledley King, Anton Ferdinand, Kevin Nolan, James Milner and Peter Crouch came quite close.
Michael Owen and Sol Campbell were not considered.
What changes would you make?

Well it’s not really mission impossible is it seeing as Capello almost did it last night – only 3 of the 15 players used play for the “Top Four” and it didn’t exactly hold England back did it?!

He didn't do it through choice though ;-)

that would be a much better side.

why would he not want to pick players out of the top four if he can? They're not that many of them in any case.

in my view, aston villa have england's future midfield: craig gardner on the right, ashley young on the left, gareth barry and nigel reo-coker in the centre.

Personally, I'd start with maybe stephen warnock at left back, but would definitly have wright-phillips starting. A fit Dean Ashton maybe pushing for a place? But would start with Heskey and Defoe.

Last time I checked Ben Foster played for Man United, why would you consider him then?
Unless of course you've taken the liberty of already substituting City for United in the Big 4 ;)
