NFL predictions are swarming the web these days. We're only two weeks away from the regular season, everybody has something to say, and it's time to start putting our money where our mouths are.
Today the NFL Network and NFL.com experts released their predictions for the 2011 NFL awards, which won't be decided until the end of the season.
I have only one prediction to make for this year's awards thus far, and it's the only that I think is as clear as day.
Von Miller will be the 2011 NFL defensive rookie of the year.
In 2011, Von Miller becomes the centerpiece of a defensive squad that landed dead last in the league in 2010. He joins Elvis Dumervil as the two most important pieces to what should be the league's most devastating pass-rush.
Miller has only played in three preseason games, and so far it's been against some more than questionable offensive lines. Some say he hasn't proved himself. I disagree.
Miller came away from three quarters of play on Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks with two and a half sacks. Each of his attacks on quarterbacks were all due to his own speed and strength. Miller showed an amazing capability of speeding around and in-between offensive lines.
Who do you predict to win the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year award? (Choices are those of NFL.com Experts)
By the end of the 2011 regular season, Miller should take the team lead in sacks home, as well as make a bid for the league lead. He'll also lead the team with tackles now that D.J. Williams faces 3-4 weeks out with a dislocated elbow. I estimate around 15-17 sacks for Miller in 2011.
By January this year, Miller will have cemented his place in history early in his career with the NFL DROY award, and the Denver Broncos will have proved that not all first-rounders this time are controversial, one of them is exactly what he's supposed to be.
