Cam Newton vs. Jimmy Clausen: Carolina Panthers Preseasn Quarterback Battle

The Carolina Panthers are in the middle of a full-blown quarterback battle. 2010 second-round pick Jimmy Clausen has been taking most of the first team snaps during practice, but sources within the team state that the sentiment is to have Cam Newton, the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, be Carolina's starter from day one. 

Clausen Leads Touchdown Drives

Clausen, the starter for most of Carolina's games last season, is the only QB to lead the Panthers on multiple touchdown drives through two preseason games. 

Newton's the Favorite, but Must Prove He Is Worthy

Cam Newton is the only Panthers QB (not counting Tony Pike, who is out with an injury) to not have led the team to a touchdown thus far in the preseason—despite playing the most minutes through two games.

Newton Shut Out Against Miami

Cam Newton failed to lead a scoring drive in the first half against the Miami Dolphins.
