Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson Finalized for November 5 on Showtime

Justin TateJun 2, 2018

Undefeated IBF super middleweight (168 lbs) world champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KOs) has reached a deal with veteran Glen Johnson (51-15-2, 35 KOs) to go to war on November 5 on Showtime.

Boxing Scene reports the fight will take place at either the Pepsi Coliseum or the Bell Centre in Quebec, whereย Bute's Canadian fans will likely sell out the venue.

Johnson found a previous offer too low. The two sides kept negotiating until a deal could be reached. Johnson had this to say to Ring Magazine about the fight:

"

I don't know how much I have left in my career, but I can tell you that I feel really good right now, and I think that I've got a few more good performances in me.ย For me, it's just one fight at a time. And for mow, I will try to bring my talents to the forefront one more when I go to Canada in November.

"

Both teams seem happy the deal has came through. Bute also made sure toย reiterateย his goal to face the winner of the Super Six Tournament:

"

Our goal remains to prove that I belong among the best. I still want to face the winner of the Super Six tournament, but it's one fight at a time. I am ready to face all the boxers who participated in this tournament to show my value to people and also that I deserve to be considered the best super middleweight in the world.

"

My Two Cents

Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs) faces WBO super middleweight world champion Robert Stieglitz (39-2, 23 KOs) in Denmark on November 5.

One has to wonder if Showtime will pair Kessler and Bute together on the network.

It's possible both fights are being aired on the same date to hype an even bigger unification match in early 2012.

Where that leaves the Super Six winner between Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KOs) and Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KOs) after their clash on October 29 is unknown, but a clash against one of the Dirrell brothers is very possible.ย
