The Money in the Bank briefcases are, obviously, a gimmicky plot device anyway—mostly because the conditions under which they can be cashed in seem to alter from year to year, month to month and angle to angle.

But Alberto Del Rio's Money in the Bank win, cash-in and now title reign are more ridiculous than usual. Here's why:

The main reason why Del Rio's Money in the Bank win and cash-in is ridiculous is simple.

It's destiny.

Everyone knew Del Rio would win the Raw Money in the Bank match (while the SmackDown one was always very open). And there's only so many times a man can have his destiny thwarted. A title reign following shortly after the briefcase win was inevitable.

We probably won't find out till tonight—if then—who sent Kevin Nash into the ring to hobble CM Punk before Del Rio's cash-in.

If Del Rio was involved in the plot somehow, it might be a classic cowardly heel move—but it's not the act of a champion. Edge told us as much last night. Nash is many things, but he ain't stylish.

Del Rio's cash-in came after a ludicrous end to an excellent main event. Cena's foot was on the bottom rope when Punk made the pin, and it's not beyond WWE to remove or reverse the victory after studying the footage.

So if Punk wasn't the real champion, does that mean Del Rio isn't the real champion either? And if he isn't, does that mean he gets the briefcase back to cash in again at a later date?

Nothing to do with Del Rio, really, but it's related—they keep reminding us that no briefcase winner has failed to become champion when they cash it in. Del Rio's win now would indicate that in eight months' time at WrestleMania, Daniel Bryan is already destined to lose.

How disappointing.
