WWE SummerSlam 2011 Results: What's Next for Christian After Loss to Randy Orton

Last night at SummerSlam Christian lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Randy Orton in a no holds bar match, thus ending his weak title reign.

Since Edge was forced to retire in April Christian has stepped up to the main event, but it’s an understatement to say he has not been as successful as Edge.

His first title reign lasted less than a week when he lost the belt to the viper, Randy Orton, on SmackDown.

He had several rematches before he finally won the heavyweight championship at the Money in the Bank PPV, only to lose the belt at the next pay-per-view, SummerSlam.

Christian’s loss only makes him look weak yet again—so what’s next for Christian?

Since Christian just lost the championship, it should entitle him to a rematch for the belt. However, he has challenged for the championship so much recently it almost seems unfair for him to have another title shot; but with that being said, I don’t think WWE should just throw him down to the bottom of the rank.

WWE can do either one of two things with Christian: make him a solid mid-carder, establish his character and place him in a lengthy feud with another mid-carder; or they can add some spice to his rivalry with Orton by adding another wrestler to the rivalry.

One of the wrestler’s on the SmackDown roster could become infuriated that Christian gets yet another title shot and demand a tournament to determine the No. 1 contender, a rumble or a match against Christian or Orton. Or they could just flat demand a championship match against Orton.

Christian, determined to prove his superiority over Orton could refuse to walk away and start playing mind games with the viper in hopes of angering him enough to be granted a rematch for the belt. And thus, it leads to a three-way match for the championship.

Although the chances of this could be unlikely since it is possible Raw may be heading in the direction of a three-way match since Alberto Del Rio cashed in his money in the bank last night.

Another possibility is bringing Edge back as an on-screen character. Edge could be a mentor to Christian or a manger, which would certainty raise Christian's profile.

Either way, they need to do something to make Christian look strong, before he ends up becoming a joke.
