The highly anticipated No Holds Bar match between Christian and Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship is this Sunday at SummerSlam.
Christian won the championship at Money in the Bank PPV in July from then-champion Randy Orton. However, Christian did not win the belt from pinning the champion or through submission. Instead, Christian won the belt via disqualification.
Let’s rewind back a couple of months to the start of the rivalry. Christian initially won the belt after Edge was forced to retire due to injuries, thus vacating the World Heavyweight Championship.
Christian won a 20-man battle royal to determine who would face Alberto Del Rio, the No. 1 contender for the belt, for the vacant championship.
At the PPV Extreme Rules, Christian faced Del Rio and won the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. It was a glorious moment for Christian and his peeps around the world.
However, Christian’s title reign was cut short when the viper, Randy Orton, won the belt from him on the May 6th edition of SmackDown. Bad times for Christian.
There was sill hope for Christian as he got a rematch for the belt at the PPV Over The Limit, but he was unsuccessful.
On the June 3rd edition of SmackDown, Christian was the special referee for the World Heavyweight Championship match between Orton and Sheamus, a match in which Orton won. However, a bitter Christian attacked Orton after the match was over.
Christian once again had another title shot against Orton, this time at the PPV Capitol Punishment. But yet again, he was unsuccessful. Fortunately for Christian, he got another title shot at the PPV Money in the Bank in which he successfully won the championship.
Throughout the rivalry, Christian has always looked like the weaker of the two wrestlers. It took him multiple championship matches before he won the belt and even when he finally won the belt, he only won via disqualification, thus making him look weak.
For years fans have wanted Christian to be in the main event and have a decent run as the champion. And yes, he may finally be in the main events and have the belt, but WWE is making him look weak.
Orton has been the champion before, he has been the heel, the anti-hero, the babyface; he has done it all and he has done it all perfectly. No one can deny Orton of is talent and passion for the company.
But Christian is also passionate about wrestling. He is not just some wrestler we have all grown up watching and hoping would become the champion one day. He has the whole package and deserves to be the champion. He has the wrestling ability, the passion and he has the charisma. He’s just never had his chance to main event his talent until now.
Fans have waited so long for Christian to main event the shows, but it feels like he still being held back. Christian deserves to prove that he is not just a filler champion and that he can hold a brand.
Maybe it’s time, and at SummerSlam Christian will prove this.
