As with most people I think the BCS is screwed up and there needs to be a better way to decide the National Champion in college football. But I think that THIS WEEK'S BCS poll is spot on.
2. Texas Tech
8. Penn St.
9. Boise St.
Obviously there are people out there that think their team is too low or another team is too high, but I can't argue with it much. Let me throw out there that I am a Michigan fan just to clarify that my team isn't even in the picture.
Alabama and Texas Tech are obvious picks for No.1 and No.2 and the order that they are in is correct. Alabama beat both Georgia and LSU on the road while Texas Tech beat Texas and Oklahoma St. at home.
Texas lost a great game to Texas Tech and I believe that they deserve to be No.3 with having only one loss (to Texas Tech) and beating Oklahoma by 10 in Norman.
Florida comes in at No.4. The Ole Miss game hurt but it was a close one. However, beating both LSU and Georgia by a combined score of 100-31 really shows that Florida is not a team that anyone would like to play.
No.5 is Oklahoma. One loss to Texas in Norman, but the Big 12 South is the best division in any conference. The thing they have on their side is that none of their wins have been within two touchdowns, even if the competition wasn't so great.
USC is sitting at No.6, which probably where most of the arguments come from. USC, like Oklahoma, crushes most of their opponents. Problem is, the Pac 10 is pretty sorry. Their biggest win was to Ohio St., who I don't think is as good as a lot of people thought they would be.
The loss to Oregon St. was no fluke. Remember when it happened two years ago in Beaverton? They just got outplayed. I feel that they are overrated this year and will continue to feel that way until they prove me wrong in their bowl game.
I don't think that any of the other teams have a real chance at the BCS Championship, unless there is a major collapse with the current top five teams, so I'm not going to justify their poll position. I just feel that the top 10 (according to the BCS poll) is currently correct.
With this article I am not jumping on the BCS bandwagon, I was just surprised that I had no beefs with it this week. I know that I will probably have an issue again (either after the TTU-OU game, or the Big 12 and SEC championships are over).
As mentioned before I think that there needs to be a better way to decide the BCS National Championship, but I can't think of a way that would be good with everyone. So we are all going to have to deal with this BCS for now. At least it was correct this week.
