Roy Halladay: Phillies Right-Hander Approaching Several Career Milestones

Zak SchmollJun 7, 2018

After watching Roy Halladay secure his 15th victory last night, the 34-year-old right-hander now has reached that landmark for six consecutive seasons. Getting 15 wins is not necessarily an easy task, so I thought that it was worth pointing out.

He has shown remarkable consistency over his 14 year career, and he should reach his 200th career victory next season. He is at 184 right now, so with a few more this season, 200 should definitely be possible for next season.

However, Halladay is also in line to grasp a few other milestones very shortly.

In three or four starts, he will throw his 2,500th career inning pitched which is definitely a testament to his durability. For the record, he is now 27 innings away from that mark.

He is one shutout away from 20 on his career. With 19, he has a six-game lead over Chris Carpenter, who is in second. Halladay is a product of modern baseball, so even though he has more shutouts than any current player, he is currently tied for 270th in terms of most career shutouts in baseball history. However, hitting 20 is still an accomplishment to be proud of.

On a less positive note, he has allowed 996 runs in his career. Number 1,000 cannot be too far away. However, it is definitely interesting because he has only allowed 897 career earned runs. That is an awful lot of unearned runs, so I guess that is a commentary on a few seasons where he had perhaps substandard defense behind him in Toronto.

Finally, it probably won't happen this season, but Halladay is 123 strikeouts away from 2,000. 64 pitchers in baseball history have hit that number, so he will probably join that group somewhere during the first half of next season. I know that this is a little bit far away, but it is worth keeping on the radar.

Halladay will be hitting some nice round numbers soon, and he has plenty of years left in his career to try and hit some more.
