WWE News: ROH Star Colt Cabana Works Smackdown Dark Match

Jon FisherCorrespondent IIAugust 3, 2011

According to Wrestlezone.com's Justin Labar; prior to tonight's Smackdown taping, Ring of Honor star Colt Cabana worked a dark match with WWE superstar Wade Barrett. Cabana lost, but I'm sure not many people cared.

For those who don't know, CM Punk has creative pull these days and it looks like he is already having an impact. His girlfriend, Beth Phoenix, is the number-one contender for the Divas Championship; Daniel Bryan won the Smackdown Money in the Bank briefcase and now his best friend, Colt Cabana, is wrestling in a WWE ring once again.

This isn't Cabana's first appearance in the WWE.  He wrestled as Scotty Goldman in 2008 and his WWE career didn't amount to much. Brian Kendrick defeated Cabana in his debut match and he competed in two battle royals for a WWE Championship opportunity, only to be eliminated first.

Just before his release, Goldman hosted his own show on wwe.com called "What's Crackin?'.  The show wasn't enough for WWE to keep Cabana as they released him on February 20th, 2009.

Ever since that day, CM Punk has lobbied to get Cabana back in the WWE ring as he went to Ring of Honor and shined.

Just to note, both Shelton Benjamin and Shawn Davari have wrestled SD dark matches, neither leading to a contract. If it does any justice, Cabana told ROH not to book him in any matches further on.

Is this just an appearance or could this be the return of Scotty Goldman (he wrestled as Colt Cabana tonight?)

You guys tell me what's crackin'.

That's right.  I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
