Breaking News: TNA Wrestling Feeling the Impact, Spike TV Looking to Rebrand
Could TNA Impact Wrestling be looking at its last dying days?
Not to get ahead of myself, as this is highly doubtful, but it is being reported by sescoops.com that the company may be in jeopardy:
“Spike TV, the cable network that is home to TNA Wrestling’s flagship show Impact Wrestling, recently confirmed reports that the network will be re-branding itself in the coming months.
Spike has catered its programming to young men since it launched back in 2003—but after several years of declining ratings, the network is looking to broaden its appeal and will soon begin airing shows for men and women aged 18-49.
Spike is expecting to lose UFC programming and it’s being speculated that the new direction for Spike may hurt TNA and their Impact Wrestling show, despite Impact doing well for Spike’s demographic. During a recent investor conference call, Spike made no mention of TNA—and UFC was barely mentioned.
If TNA were dropped from Spike, it would hurt the company big time unless they could secure another national TV deal.
While Impact Wrestling getting dropped from Spike would be a devastating blow to TNA, that seems unlikely at this point—since Impact still doubles the network’s average rating and does not cost Spike much in TV rights fees.”
Will TNA wrestling be effected by Spike's re-branding?
You would think with the likely possibility of UFC being out the door, Impact Wrestling could be a probable front runner for the Spike TV brand; with a new edition of MMA programming like Bellator Fighting Championships.
If this is slightly true, TNA Impact Wrestling could be treading water for awhile. There may not be another home for them to air their weekly programming.
This would be a major blow, especially after all the re-branding the organization has been doing to improve itself.
Although we have been seeing improvement, such as better quality matches, booking and story lines, the ratings have not really improved.
This may play a factor if Spike TV wants to move forward with the company or not. They want Impact Wrestling to draw numbers.
But this is just speculation. Spike may just want to add some more new programming that will appeal to both genders within a certain age demographic.
With moral being said to be low in the locker room, could this lead to certain stars wanting to jump off the ship before it sinks.
For example Stone Cold has shown interest in Samoa Joe and has even stated via twitter, that WWE should sign the exciting talent.
FOLLOWING POSTED BY SESCOOPS.COM:
“WWE should sign @SamoaJoe as soon as his TNA contract is up. One of my favorite workers in today’s game. Needs a full green light push.”
UPDATE: Samoa Joe has responded to Steve Austin’s suggestion that WWE sign him when he becomes a free agent. Joe tweeted on Friday morning:
“@steveaustinBSR Much appreciated. *tips cap”
Like stated before this all speculation and we will just have to sit back and wait.
