Premier League: 5 Newcomers to Watch out for During the 2011-12 Season

Shawn EJul 28, 2011

The Premier League is said to be the most physical and grueling league in world football. For this very reason, many players who join Premier League clubs from abroad do not always enjoy success in England's top division.

World-class players who did not enjoy their time in the EPL include the likes of Robinho, Hernan Crespo, Adrian Mutu and Andriy Schevchenko.

I have put together a list of five Premier League newcomers to watch for next season. These players seem to have what it takes to enjoy success in the EPL next season.

Gervinho

1 of 5

The former Lille striker led the club to the top of the French Ligue 1 last season. His stellar performances earned him a move to the Emirates where he should play a significant role next season.

In 53 appearances last season, Gervinho bagged 18 goals and picked out 10 assists. His pace and skill on the ball make him an ideal fit for the Gunners.

Oriol Romeu

2 of 5

With Michael Essien set to miss a significant portion of the Premier League season, Romeau will be competing with John Obi Mikel and Ramires for a position in the Chelsea starting midfield.

The former Barcelona B player may just beat out Mikel and Ramires, who have not played up to their potential and expectation at Stamford Bridge.

Stefan Savić

3 of 5

Savić's move to Manchester City was somewhat anticipated due to the departure of German defender Jerome Boateng. During his only season at Partizan Belgrade, Savić appeared in 28 games scoring one goal.

His club finished atop the Serbian SuperLiga and were also champions of the Serbian Cup.

He should find some playing time at City because Mancini loves to bring on defenders to protect leads in the latter stages of matches.

Sergio Agüero

4 of 5

The man nicknamed "Kun" has terrorized La Liga defenses, scoring at least 20 goals for four seasons running.

This summer, he represented Argentina in Copa America and was the teams most consistent performer.

Agüero gives Manchester City's attack a lot more quality and versatility. His ability to play on either wing or as a striker make him a great buy for the Champions League newcomers.

David de Gea

5 of 5

De Gea is arguably the most anticipated debut of any of the Premier League newcomers. He will attempt to replace legendary Dutch stopper Edwin van der Sar next season.

Last season at Atletico Madrid, de Gea stopped the most shots from inside the penalty area in La Liga. His potential is unlimited and Sir Alex will hope he can fly out of the gates like Chicharito Hernandez did last season.
