Carlos Beltran Trade Update: Details Coming in as Trade Nears Completion
Following last night's humiliating 7-2 loss to theย Phillies, the Giants front office must have realized that it could no longer delay its acquisition of a middle-of-the-order bat.
Numerous sites are reporting thatย Carlos Beltranย is on the verge of being officially traded to the Giants in return for as-of-yet unnamed prospects, one of whom may be Zack Wheeler.
"Pending approval from Beltran and the commissionerโs office, the switch-hitting All-Star will go to San Francisco for top pitching prospect Zach Wheeler. The Mets will send some cash to the Giants in the deal," Ken Rosenthal and John Paul Morosi write for Fox Sports.

Beltran, 1999's Rookie of the Year and a career .282 hitter with 295 career home runs will be a welcome addition to a Giants lineup that has underperformed since the start of the season and currently ranks near the bottom of most offensive categories.
Beltran was selected to the All-Star team this year by Giants manager Bruce Bochy. When healthy, the formerย Metsย slugger drives in an average of over 100 runs per year with about 30 home runs.ย
Despite Brian Wilson's All-Star Game lobbying for Beltran, it appeared as though a deal would not materialize. Rumors are swirling in the aftermath of this announcement, with some speculators posting that this may be a multi-team/multi-player deal.
When the dust settles, one thing will be certain: The lineup of theย San Francisco Giantsย will likely become substantially more potent.ย
