Sepak Takraw Video: Watch Kung Fu and Soccer Mix for Awesome Results

Let me start by saying that I am game for just about anything. I will try just about any sport. I have to say that I have met my match in this kung fu, soccer and volleyball mash-up. 

At some point, one evil genius woke up and decided to invent a sport so difficult that I assume you need a black belt to enjoy it. 

This, my friends, is kick volleyball. According to its Wikipedia page, it's a sport that is popular in Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Philippines. Once I find some limber friends and liquor them up, it will also be popular in my own backyard. 

Have you ever been amazed by a really magnificent martial arts maneuver? Well, imagine you were greedy enough to ask the martial arts expert to also handle a hacky sack while kicking, making sure to keep the sack in bounds. 

That ludicrous request is at the very heart of Sepak Takraw. The rules are similar to volleyball. The major difference is that players may only touch the ball with their feet, knees, chest or head. 

It is a blend of seemingly impossibly distant sports whose results are, well, epic. This is a sport of Jackie Chan-like kicks at the net instead of volleyball spikes. One game contains more bicycle kicks than a decade of soccer games. 

The good news is that this is an actual sport with rules, and a governing body. It is overseen by the International Sepak Takraw Federation. They hold the King's Cup World Championships every year in Thailand.

The bad news is that, while it is played Asian Games and Southeast Asians Games, it has no traction as an Olympic sport, yet. 

I am here to implore the world to wake up and take notice. I don't ask for much, but I need to see more of this sport on my TV. 

As I write this, I am trying to think of how I can get a makeshift Sepak Takraw rig in the backyard. Make no mistake, it is going to happen this weekend. I may not be here to let you in on the results on Monday, as I will be in the hospital.
