Beautiful Observance: Why the NFL Lockout Has Created an NFL Fan's Paradise

Joe Rapolla Jr.Jun 7, 2018

Alas, after 132 scary days where the sun did not shine, the birds did not chirp, and cheese started to go bad in Green Bay, the NFL lockout has been lifted.Ā

OK, maybe that's just a little dramatic, yet NFL fans were surely starting to bite their nails about whether their Sundays this Fall would be spent watching football.

But wait, is there a bright side to all this lockout madness? I think yes. The lockout has created a plethora of football news like never before. Some might even say, a paradise.Ā

CONSTANT News Updates

1 of 4

If you thought a regular offseason was exciting, with a deal happening every few days, just imagine what this offseason will be like.Ā

There will literally be hundreds of stories every day for the next couple weeks. Players will be released, re-signed, and traded. Months of actions are about to take place over about three weeks, so every NFL fan, please get ready.Ā

Also, any employers that have die-hard NFL fans on their staff, expect a dip in production.Ā

The Need to Tweet

2 of 4

Twitter was off the charts yesterday when the NFL lockout ended and it was more of the same today, with everyone tweeting about where they think players would land and what move they think would be next.Ā

The world of sports is now a very connected one. We have taken to social networking as a platform as efficiently and effectively as any industry out there, and platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and even Bleacher Report give everyone a voice.

Now that this lockout has ended, everyone has something they need to tweet.Ā

Predictions Coming True, or Not

3 of 4

Over the last few months, there was tons of speculation about where the league's top free agents and trade prospects would head. Kevin Kolb to Arizona? Donovan McNabb to San Francisco? Would the Jets re-sign Santonio Holmes?

Everyone made their predictions and had their opinions, and now everyone has the honor or displeasure of seeing how right or wrong they were.Ā

Whatever the outcome is, this is an incredibly fun time for NFL fans.Ā

NFL > Washington, D.C.

I can't get over the irony of how the NFL lockout parallels so much with the situation going on in Washington, D.C.Ā

The NFL was deciding, in Laymen's terms, how to split up profit and run their business.Ā

In Washington, D.C., Congress is deciding how to run their business, yet the debate is not over how to split up profit but how to account for deficit.Ā

Scary times indeed for the US economy, yet I have faith in the folks who run our country, and I am, as a sports fan, enjoying the sweet bliss in knowing that the NFL is run better than my government. Patriots owner Robert Kraft even said that the government should "take a lesson" from the NFL.Ā

Hopefully our economy doesn't burn to the ground before football season. Until them, I'm living in paradise.Ā
