The Minnesota Vikings took no time in adding some camp bodies when teams were officially allowed to sign free agents this morning at 9 AM.
The Vikings added some competition to their unknown receiving corps by adding undrafted free agent Andre Holmes.
Holmes comes from Division ll Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he was an absolute monster last season. He set single-season school records with 104 receptions and over 1,300 receiving yards while adding 11 touchdowns.
Holmes is a big, quick receiver, two adjectives every receiver strives for. He is 6'4'', 200 lbs and ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at one of his pro days.
Time will tell if Andre Holmes is just a camp body or if he is the real deal. The "potential" is there, but he really needs to show the Vikings he has the ability to take his game from Division ll to the NFL quickly if he has any chance to stay around.
Holmes will probably be battling seventh-round pick Steven Burton, also from Division ll, for a practice-squad spot with Burton having a slight advantage of being an actual draft pick. Holmes is about three inches taller than Burton and actually had better receiving numbers this past season than Burton.
Burton though, has the ability to return kicks and happens to be a little bit quicker.
We wish you the best of luck, Andre Holmes, and hopefully your big body and enormous "potential" will translate into a long-lasting and successful career for the Minnesota Vikings.
Welcome to Valhalla.
