Mounting Uncertainty: Paul Robinson's Future at White Hart Lane

Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has found himself deemed surplus by Spurs manager Juande Ramos after hitting an unfortunate run of poor form, at both club and international level.

The decision to drop Robinson came after Tottenham's 2-2 FA Cup draw with Reading—in which Robinson was responsible for both goals conceded.

Since then, many critics and pundits across England are speculating over Robinson's future at White Hart Lane.

Robinson's vacancy has given backup goalkeeper Radek Cerny the opportunity to establish himself as a number one in the Premier League. Currently, the Czech Republic international hasn't disappointed and has provided Ramos with solid performances in net.

Despite the uncertainty, Robinson has insisted to the media and fans that he has asked for a transfer request. Instead, he has announced his determination to regain his spot as Tottenham's top goalkeeper.

"The press and media seem to be having a lot of fun and games at my expense recently and I seem to be reading stuff day in, day out," he said. "The truth of the matter is I'm getting my head down and working as hard as I possibly can to get my place back."

"I was disappointed with the way the situation was handled, let's say. I saw reports yesterday saying I've put in a transfer request. I've never put in a transfer request," says a disgruntled Robinson.

When asked if whether there was a possibility of leaving White Hart Lane in the current January transfer window, Robinson replied assertively.

"Definitely not."

He did, however, concede that he would consider a move away if he was still faced with a similar situation.

"Any professional worth their salt wants to play. If I don't play between now and the summer I've got a decision to make. If the club turns around to me and says I've got no future at the club then that's a whole different situation. As of yet that's not the situation," he said when asked by the media regarding his future at the club.

Despite suffering from a sudden lack of confidence, Robinson could still find himself holding down a spot at Manchester City, where it is rumored that former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson is interested in locking up the goalkeeper's services.

For Robinson, the prospect of joining up with his former manager could be tempting considering his desire to continue to play a role at the international level under new boss Fabio Capello.

In the meanwhile, Robinson has grudgingly admitted that he could be dropped from the squad completely leading up to Capello's first England squad selection on Thursday.

"I am not playing football and if that's the case I can't expect to be selected. I will be surprised if I am. But this whole situation is an incentive for me to get my head down at Tottenham and concentrate on getting my place back."

Like anything else in football, it's easier said than done.
