WWE News: Why There Is Still No Wrestler Like Rob Van Dam

Donald WoodJul 24, 2011

While TNA wrestling is pushing all the wrong buttons with their veteran talent, they are still making time to promote the talents of Rob Van Dam.

The company isn’t promoting him the way they should, but anything is better than nothing for the former WWE champion.

Since the wrestling business is going towards more high-flying action, they should all have to thank the man that made the style prevalent to the mainstream, Rob Van Dam. While many jumped before him, no one jumped higher or further and there was no one who could do the moves he could.

Still to this day there aren’t many people who can pull off the moves that RVD did and still does, and Rob Van Dam told the Miami Herald at this year’s Comic Con:

"I don’t feel like right now, even after being in the business for as long as I have, anyone wrestles like me. I still stand out. Nobody does most of my RVD moves. The truth is a lot of it is because they can’t. Some of it is out of respect. A lot of it is because normal people can’t jump off the apron and do a 360-degree spin in the air, then come back on one leg, with the other leg coming down on somebody on the guard rail. Normal people can’t do that. Normal wrestlers can’t do that, or they will get injured. That is still one of the things that set me apart. That’s not going to change."

The one thing that really is lacking in the WWE is an athlete like RVD that will sell his body out on a nightly basis to make the matches great.

While there are great technical wrestlers like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan that are working for the WWE at the moment, the company as a whole is lacking in that department. TNA has a plethora of great wrestlers like Van Dam that can actually pull off some of the high-flying moves he made famous, but they don't use them properly.

If the WWE could find a way to have Daniel Bryan intrigue the audiences like CM Punk has, it might signal the changing of the guard for what the WWE is looking for from its superstars.

The success of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view should show that the people want to see high-flying action with serious elements of danger and talent.
