Bellator 47 Main Card Results: Horodecki Dominates Saunders for Another Win
Bellator 47 made it's Canadian debut at the beautiful Casino Rama just outside of Orillia, Ontario tonight. Here are the quick results and analysis from each of the four main card fights, and a look ahead for each winner.
Main Card
Pat Curran vs. Ronnie Mann
Curran wins via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27).
Both fighters said before this one that it may be a technical and cautious affair and that certainly turned out to be the case as they started slowly on the feet and had much respect for each other.
Of course, they warmed up a bit as the fight went on and Pat Curran got some dominant position in Round 1.
Pat Curran initiated and did most of the damage as the fight went on and Mann's coach Shawn Tompkins implored him stop giving Curran so much respect and step in and throw all night long.
Mann came back strong and took the third round but it was a bit too little, too late.
What's Next?: Marlon Sandro and possibly a shot at the title and champ Joe Warren.
Marlon Sandro vs. Nazareno Malegarie
Sandro wins via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
In the first featherweight semifinal, Marlon Sandro used superior boxing and takedown defense to nullify Nazareno Malegarie all night long.
Sandro kept him outside his jab with excellent footwork and he scored enough solid shots that he easily won the exchange. Malegarie, the jiu-jitsu ace hung in there but ate punches on the way in every time and with no ability to get the fight to the ground he had little chance.
What's Next?: Pat Curran and possibly a shot at the title and champ Joe Warren.
Chris Horodecki vs. Chris Saunders
Horodecki wins via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Chris Horodecki used solid trips, wrestling, strength and conditioning to gut out a solid win against American Chris Saunders in his Bellator debut.
There weren't a lot of fireworks on the feet and it was a more workmanlike win for Horodecki but he dominated Saunders in every inch of the cage to earn his win to cap a very tough week personally for the Canadian fighter.
What's Next?: It was a tough, but dominant performance by Horodecki and I feel he is right in the Bellator lightweight title picture, if not already, after another fight against a Bellator top dog.
Neil Grove vs. Zak Jensen (Heavyweight)
Grove wins via knockout (TKO, 2:00, Round 1).
These two heavyweights came out all guts and offense and you didn't know up until it ended who was gonna get the upper hand. It was fists flying and Neil Grove was the one left standing.
Jensen actually knocked Grove down right away as both fighters swung for the heads and the knockdown brought the fight down when Jensen tried a couple triangle chokes and an arm bar and Grove also tried a sit back ankle lock before he pounded Jensen out from the top.
What's Next?: The 6'6", 40-year-old sent a message to champ Cole Konrad and other heavyweights like newly signed Ricco Rodriguez that he is here for a little while longer.
