WWE SummerSlam 2011: What the Match Card Should Look Like
If all of you like me, you're starting to get pumped about wrestling again. It almost feels like, well, like the attitude days might not be dead after all.
The last month in the WWE have left me on the edge of my seat night after night, from the CM Punk shoot promo to the Money in the Bank Pay Per View that was without question the best WWE Pay Per View I've seen in some years.
And then the bombshell on Raw last Monday with Triple H replacing Vince McMahon as head of the WWE day to day operations.
So, obviously, I want more. And with one of the biggest Pay Per Views of the year coming up in SummerSlam, WWE needs to keep it going.
The only way to do that is to deliver a card with potential to live up to Money in the Bank, and, in my opinion, this is the match card that could do just that.
14-Diva Swimsuit Competition or Something
1 of 8The same 14 divas that participated in that horrible tag team match on Raw last week can dance around in swimsuits or something. Or just have Kelly Kelly face one of the Bella's again. I would prefer swimsuits, though.
Intercontinental Championship: Ezekiel Jackson vs. Heath Slater
2 of 8As horrible as Heath Slater's mic skills are, after watching Money in the Bank and his match with Daniel Bryan on SmackDown, I gotta say, the kid has some pretty good in-ring skills. Therefore, this was the only logical match-up I could think of for WWE I.C. Champion Ezekiel Jackson.Ā
I would love if the WWE added Sheamus and Wade Barrett into the match, but I just don't see there being more than one Fatal Four-Way match on one card.
I would like to see Slater win just because there's more potential good match-ups for Slater as champion than there are for Zeek as champion.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston
3 of 8I hope the WWE will build on these two guys having a little rivalry because for one, we have seen Kofi vs. Ziggler way too many times, and two, if Del Rio cashes in his money in the bank briefcase now, it kind of kills what the WWE has going on right now with the Punk storyline.
These two can just have a nice rivalry match at SummerSlam and then the winner can move on. If Kingston wins, maybe next PPV he challenges Del Rio for the briefcase, and if Del Rio wins, he can focus his attention back to the WWE Championship.
United States Championship: Dolph Ziggler vs. Evan Bourne
4 of 8A good match-up here for the WWE United States Championship. Both guys are fun to watch in the ring. Bourne's high flying and Ziggler's fast pace will have fans intrigued from start to finish of this Championship contest.
The match would be a close one to call, but I would say Bourne would win because it looks as if the WWE is interested in maybe giving Ziggler a bigger push.
Daniel Bryan vs. Cody Rhodes for the SmackDown Money in the Bank Contract
5 of 8Now, nobody bite my head off on this one. But I love watching this two go at it, and putting the MITB contract on the line makes the match PPV worthy. Daniel Bryan has a huge following from his days back with ROH, and Cody's new role as "undashing" has many fans enjoying him, especially with the paperbags.Ā
I would have to pick Daniel Bryan in the match, but I can definitely see Rhodes winning because the WWE does a great job angering the WWE Universe in situations such as this.
R-Truth vs. John Morrison
6 of 8SummerSlam wouldn't be complete without a big name returning to the ring, and this year, it's none other than John Morrison.Ā
R-Truth's heel turn all began with John Morrison and Truth attacking Morrison. Since then, Truth has been pushed into main event matches, including the WWE Championship match at Capital Punishment.Ā
Morrison was looking as if his big push was coming until the injury, but after taking some time off and with vignettes about him beginning to air on Monday Night Raw, it looks as if his return is on the horizon.
If this happens, there's no question that Morrison would win the match. Hopefully, both men will remain in the title picture after the event because the more title contenders, the better.
World Heavyweight Championship Street Fight: Christian vs. Randy Orton
7 of 8I mean, duh. Everybody knows this is going to happen. The only question is whether it'll be a street fight, steel cage match or some other no-DQ stipulation. Because clearly, it won't be another one-on-one match. Hopefully, this is the end of this rivalry. Although, they are having great matches, we're all ready for someone else to step into the World Championship picture.
What if, I don't know, Chris Jericho returned during the match and attacked Orton for Christian? Or Batista comes from the crowd and Batista Bombs Christian to help Orton? OK, OK, so neither are likely to happen, but that's how you end a rivalry.
I'm taking Christian in the match anyway, any stipulation.
WWE Championship Triple Threat: John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio vs. the Miz
8 of 8Miz and Mysterio have their one on one match on Raw for the WWE Championship, but CM Punk comes to the ring through the crowd and attacks both men. Cena runs to the ring, but Punk escapes through the crowd.Ā
Triple H announces the next week that at SummerSlam, CM Punk can compete whether he signs a new contract or not in a Fatal Four Way match with Miz, Cena, and Mysterio. If Punk no shows, then it'll be a Triple Threat match to crown a New WWE Champion.
If Punk returns and wins, Triple H says he will grant any contract offer Punk wants.
The match begins without Punk and is a Triple Threat. About halfway through the match, Punk's music hits. He runs to the ring and throws Cena and Miz out the ring. He then hits the GTS on Mysterio and goes for the pin. Mysterio kicks out at two.
The match continues, and as Punk gets the upper hand once again and is about to hit the GTS on Cena, Triple H's music hits.Ā
Punk stops and looks at the stage as no one comes out. Right at the moment, Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment and defeats Punk to become the New WWE Champion.
Wouldn't that just be awesome and suck at the same time? I just see this happening because it's clear that CM Punk and Triple H are about to have their own thing. And it can't happen with Punk being WWE Champion.
Tell me guys what you think of the predictions and leave me your feedback!
