WWE Power Rankings: Rating the Top 25 Wrestlers Currently in the Game
What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes, and I am back here today with a column that I've been wanting to write for quite some time now: Rating the Top 25 Wrestlers Currently in the Game.
I will rate the current WWE Wrestlers based on certain criteria (which will be explained in the next slide) and I will use that criteria to compile a list.
Now, before I move on, I need to do a quick plug. For months, I have been talking a project that I am working on. After months of work, it is...finally done. The project I was talking about is a website that I put together called QuickWrestlingNews.com. It is basically a rumor site with many other sub-sections such as a wrestling directory, a section for columns, and a shop. Make sure to check it out when you have a moment.
Also, make sure to add me on Facebook to keep up with all of my latest columns.
And now, with that shameless bit of shilling out of the way, let's get this show on the road!
Rules
1 of 28Before I move on with the list, here are the official rules that I used to compile it:
-As the title says, this list is for WWE wrestlers only.
-I will rate the wrestlers in three categories - mic skills, in-ring skills, and entertainment value. I thought about also rating them based on their characters but decided against it as it would've hurt a lot of the scores since a lot of these guys have no character/poorly booked characters. Plus, for most of them, their character is really beyond their control.
-Here are theĀ standards that I'm using for mic skills and in-ring skills - Steve Austin and The Rock would've gotten a 10 in mic skills while Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels would've gotten a 10 in in-ring skills. Therefore, don't be flabbergasted when someone like Alberto Del Rio doesn't have a 10 in every category.
-Entertainment value will be more of a personal opinion. I can't speak for everyone. I thought it was necessary to add this as a category because otherwise, some of the wrestlers would have low scores either due to lack of mic skills or lack of in-ring skills. The third category helps balance it out.
-Anybody who has not been on TV in the past month does not qualify for this list. Sorry, Undertaker.
-Anybody who is still in FCW does not qualify for this list. Sorry, Seth Rollins.
-Anybody who isĀ a commentator does not qualify for this list. Sorry, William Regal.
-This should go without saying but anybody who has been released or has left the company does not qualify for this list.
-If two wrestlers happen to get tied scores, I choose who gets ranked ahead of who.
-I will make sure to give a thorough explanation for every ranking. Before questioning why someone is too high or too low, make sure to read the slide.
With all of that said, let's get this show on the road!
Wrestlers Who Missed the Cut
2 of 28Here are some of the wrestlers who were considered for this list but just barely missed the cut:
Alex Riley: There are a lot of people who have been on the Alex Riley bandwagon ever since he split up with The Miz but that tends to happen within the IWC. I still remember how Mason Ryan was proclaimed to be the next Batista the night after his debut.
Riley has potential so in a year or so, he'll probably make this list. Until then, he's really only had one feud and it has pretty much just turned into two guys fighting for no reason every week. Let's see what he can do without The Miz.
Sin Cara: He's fun to watch in the ring but what ultimately knocked him out of contention is his inability to speak English and therefore his lack of mic skills. There are a few wrestlers on this list whose mic skills are dreadful but all of them can at least speak English. When you can't talk at all, you can't be considered one of the top 25 all-around talents.
Ted DiBiase: He has potential but he's pretty much in the same boat as Riley. I don't remember the last time we saw DiBiase in a real singles feud. Until that happens, I don't have much to judge him on.
Ezekiel Jackson: WWE pulled the trigger with him too early and it shows. Maybe he'll make this list in a couple years, after some proper development.Ā Until then, his mic and in-ring work is holding him down.
Kane:Ā Ten years ago, he would've probably made this list. Nowadays, his promos and matches aren't very exciting. I guessĀ THERE WILL BEĀ VENGEANCE~!
25. Evan Bourne
3 of 28Coming in at No. 25, we have Evan Bourne. I'm on the fence whenĀ it comes to Bourne. On one hand, he's extremely fun to watch in the ring. He's a high flyer but he's also not just some indy spot monkey who flips and flops around and does nothing else.
Bourne is one of the most agile wrestlers I've ever seen, he's put on some great matches in the past, and he is always reliable when it comes to gimmick matches. If the cruiserweight division was still around, Bourne would've owned that division, without a doubt.
However, Bourne is really held back by his lack of mic skills. The fact that he can't cutĀ a promo is holding him down on the card...and down on this list.
Mic Skills: 2
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score - 15/30
24. Drew McIntyre
4 of 28Coming in at No. 24, we've got "The Chosen One" Drew McIntyre. Now don't get me wrong, McIntyre is by no means bad. He's slightly above average on the mic and can cut an exceptional promo when he needs to, as proven by his feud with Teddy Long last year.
However, he leaves something to be desired in the ring and is just overall bland. Maybe if he was repackaged, he'd be more exciting to watch. I don't know. However, as it stands now, McIntyre is near the bottom of the list.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 5
Final Score - 16/30
23. Big Show
5 of 28To this day, it amazes me how much WWE sucks at booking monsters. For a while, they had guys like Mark Henry, Vladimir Kozlov, and The Great Khali participating in dance-offs.
While Big Show hasn't stooped that low, he has dressed up as Santa Claus before. Also, it was only a fewĀ months ago that he and Kane jobbed clean to David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty.
That's pathetic booking. Someone like Big Show should be unbeatable and shouldn't be knocked off his feet in EVERY SINGLE MATCH.
Remember when Ezekiel Jackson got a clean victory over him? Did anyone actually care? If he was booked to be unstoppable, it would be a huge deal when someone eventually defeated himĀ rather than a weekly ceremony.
With that said, Big Show himself isn't that bad. He's actually fairly athletic for a guy his size. He gets a 5Ā for in-ring skills, although it would've been a 6 a few years ago. Obviously, he's slowed down over the years.
However, what's holding him down the list is the fact that I can't give him a high score in the entertainment value category due to him being a victim of abysmally poor booking.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 5
Final Score: 16/30
22. Tyson Kidd
6 of 28Judging by what I've seen from Tyson Kidd's in-ring performances, the guy is very impressive. He's a high flyer but also aĀ proficient mat wrestler, which is a rare combination.
He's not that good on the mic, which is why he was given several managers over the past couple of weeks.
Nonetheless, he's another guy who would've really shined if the cruiserweight division was still around as he works best with guys like Evan Bourne, Trent Barreta and Sin Cara.
Mic Skills: 4
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 17/30
21. Dolph Ziggler
7 of 28I might get some heat for this one due to the fact that Dolph Ziggler has always been one of the IWC favorites. However, I just don't get what all the hype is about.
The guy isn't bad but he's average at best. I always hear about how great he is in the ring but can someone name a match he's had that's hit the **** range?
He had two matches that were close but not quite there - one with Daniel Bryan at Bragging Rights and one with Kofi Kingston at Capitol Punishment.
One of those matches was with a guy who's considered the best wrestler in the world and one with a guy that he knows like the back of his hand. On a consistent basis, though, he hasn't been as impressive as he's made out to be.
As for his ratings of 6 in the mic skills and in-ring skills categories, just go back and look at the standards. Austin and Rock would get a 10 in mic skills while Angle and Michaels would get a 10 in in-ring skills.
Therefore, I can't give him an 8 orĀ a 9 because you can't seriously tell me that he's just a level below those guys. Plus, 6 is the perfect rating because it describes him best - slightly above average but nothing special.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 6
Entertainment Value: 5
Final Score: 17/30
20. Mark Henry
8 of 28At the moment, Mark Henry is red hot and is probably the most interesting thing going on on SmackDown. With the way he has been booked, destroying everyone and everything in his path, I can actually buy him as a credible world title challenger.
It's a good thing that WWE dropped the ridiculous Kool-Aid man gimmick and put him back in his comfort zone as "The World's Strongest Man," where he really shines.
Henry isn't a horrible talker (although he would be better off with a manager) which is why he gets a 6 in mic skills. In the ring, he's pretty average, although he can pull off good matches once in a while like the one with Mysterio after the Draft, hence the 5 rating.
He also gets a 6 in the entertainment value category due to how entertaining his push has been over the past couple of months. It's safe to say that he's a lot more valuable in the role that he's in now than the role that he wasĀ in for the past two years.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 17/30
19. Rey Mysterio
9 of 28Coming in at No. 19 is Rey Mysterio. While his character has gotten a bit stale as of late, I've always been a fan of the guy and I strongly believe that he's the greatest high flyer of all time. None of the other high flyers can match his amazing in-ring psychology.
The reason Rey is fairly low on this list is because he can't compete at the same level that he could 10 years ago. If this list was being written then, he would've gotten a 9 in in-ring skills and a 7 in entertainment value.
However, multiple knee surgeries have taken a toll on his in-ring performance and have knocked him down the list.
That's not to say that he's bad in the ring, though. He can still compete at a higher level than about half of the current roster.
Mic Skills: 4
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 17/30
18. Vladimir Kozlov
10 of 28Vladimir Kozlov makes the list at No. 18. Now, hear me out on this one. I honestly think that WWE dropped the ball BIG TIME with this guy. I absolutely loved the way he was booked back in 2008.
He came out, kicked ass, and left. He did that every week for many months. When it was time for him to challenge Triple H and Jeff Hardy for the WWE Championship, he actually looked like a credible contender going in.
Unfortunately, he became the newestĀ victim of Big Show-style booking as WWE had him start participating in dance-offs and now he's nothing more than a comedy act on RAW.
What I like about Kozlov is that he's big but he's not immobile. He's an actual athlete. Kozlov has a background in MMA, freestyle wrestling, sambo, kickboxing, judo, football and rugby which gives him a unique wrestling style.
To this day, I believe that he could've gotten the push Sheamus went on to get. If Kozlov was being booked the way he was booked in 2008 for a year and a half, then he could've easily become WWE Champion at TLC and he would've looked much better than Sheamus since he'd be a lot more developed.
It's just another case of WWE dropping the ball with a wrestler and not using him to his full potential.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 6
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 18/30
17. Santino Marella
11 of 28Whether you agree with how high he is ranked on this list or not, you can't deny one thing: Santino Marella is entertaining. That is what puts him so high on this list. The guy is extremely talented on the mic. His promos with Chris Jericho and Steve Austin, as well as the "Tea Time" segment, are classic.
Santino Marella is actually not bad in the ring, either. His in-ring rating is based solely on his WWE work which is why it's so low but Marella is a former mixed martial artist. It's understandable why WWE doesn't want him to go all out but I think they limit him too much.
If I were booking things, I'd have backstage vignettes over a period of three months or so where Vladimir Kozlov or William Regal takes Santino under his wing and trains him.
Three months later, we see Santino back without the unibrow and with normal trunks. He can still cut funny promos but have him turn into a serious in-ring competitor for the sake of putting on quality matches.
Either way, I think No. 17 is a fair rating for Santino. He's a solid wrestler, he's great on the mic, and he is a comedic wrestler but he doesn't want to make me bang my head against the wall like Hornswoggle.
Mic Skills: 8
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 19/30
16. Kofi Kingston
12 of 28To me, Kofi Kingston falls in the same category as Dolph Ziggler as someone who is easily forgettable. Other than the brief feud with Randy Orton, Kofi hasn't really done anything relevant throughout his career.
However, due to the fact that he's slightly better in the ring than Dolph, Kofi Kingston appears much higher on this list.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 19/30
15. Zack Ryder
13 of 28"Long Island Iced Z" Zack Ryder makes this list at No. 15. I have to say that the guy has a lot of potential. While his videos don't have me cackling and rolling on the floor as some people claim, he does come across as very charismatic and I do tune in to his YouTube channel every Thursday to see what he has in store.
He has that same charisma when it comes to working the mic. His promos back in ECW showed how gifted he is when it comes to that area.
In the ring, he could use a little work. It's not like he's horrible but he's just average. If you asked me to name the top 5 matches of Zack Ryder, not too many would come to mind.
Still, I don't think anybody's predicting Zack Ryder to be the next WWE Champion. It's more of a case of, "Hey, Santino Marella is on TV in segments every week; whyĀ can't Zack Ryder be doing the same?"
With that said, I feel like Ryder could be a very entertaining TV character. He's young so he still has a long time to improve. For now, what I'd do with Zack is give him his own talk show such as "Carlito's Cabana" except have it related to Long Island.
From there, I'd have Zack interview superstars about their current rivalries and use the talk show to freshen up stale feuds. Remember that boring contract signing between Christian and Randy Orton a few weeks ago?
How much more entertaining would that segment have been if they were both being interviewed by Zack Ryder? That's just one of the many ways Ryder could be used while his in-ring work improves.
Either way, it's a shame that he's not being used more prominently.
Mic Skills: 7
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 7
Final Score: 19/30
14. Alberto Del Rio
14 of 28Here we go. I've said this before and I'll say it again. I feel that Del Rio is overhyped and overrated. When you break things down, is he really that good?
First of all, I've read comments about how he'sĀ some sort ofĀ in-ring master. While he is decent in the ring, don't forget the standards. Kurt Angle is a 10. Does anybody actually believe that Del Rio is almost at that level?
Next, let's take a look at his mic skills. I've learned three things from his promos - his name is Alberto Del Rio but we already know that, it is his destiny to win the world title, and Rey Mysterio is a chihuahua. That's literally it. In his one year with WWE, he hasn't talked about anything else.
I'm not rating him based on his character because I get that that's beyond his control. But really, the only elements to his character is that he drives out in a new car every week, he has a personal ring announcer, andĀ he has a towel wrapped around his neck.
That's it? We're supposed to take him seriously as an aristocrat? Compare that to someone like The Million Dollar Man or JBL.
With all of that said, I think Del Rio's ranking on this list is more than fair, considering the talent that is ranked ahead of him.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 19/30
13. John Morrison
15 of 28John Morrison's in-ring abilities? Undeniable. Nobody's going to take that away from him. The unique parkour wrestling-style makes him stand out in that area.
However, the area where Morrison really struggles is working the mic. Heel, face, whatever. His promos have just always come off as unnatural. When I listen to Morrison, it doesn't feel like I'm listening to John Morrison; it feels like I'm listening to some guy on the creative team.
And while "The Dirt Sheet" was a very entertaining segment, A) It was pre-taped with no live crowd, meaning there were multiple takes and B) If you go back and watch some of those segments, Miz was clearly the more charismatic of the two.
I'm glad that John Morrison is currently taking classes. It shows that he is taking his career seriously.Ā If he improves in that field, I can definitely see him moving up the ladder.
Mic Skills: 4
In-Ring Skills: 8
Entertainment Value: 7
Final Score: 19/30
12. Cody Rhodes
16 of 28Cody Rhodes is an interesting case. I think he has proficient mic and in ring skills but I absolutely hate his current character for several reasons.
First of all, who talks like that? I get that he's supposed to act disturbed but don't overexaggerate it to the point where it sounds like he's drunk. Next, what's up with the paper bags?
To Ted DiBiase: "If you lose one more match, I will personally put a paper bag over your face." Oh no! That monster!
Finally and most importantly, the characterĀ is cute but he's never going to main event with the character. It's just not strong enough, no matter how you look at it.
With that out of the way, this list isn't about character; it's about talent. Cody's fine in the ring. As he showed when he had the "Dashing" persona, he can cut normal promos. He's very charismatic when he's not acting like an idiot.
All of that put togetherĀ is the reason Cody makes it this high on the list.
Mic Skills: 7
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 20/30
11. Jack Swagger
17 of 28Coming in at No. 11, we've got the All American American American American...American.
I've said it many times before. Jack Swagger is one of the biggest cases of WWE dropping the ball. I'm not talking about his ridiculously booked world championship reign, as that's a given.
I'm talking about him being Michael Cole's personal trainer which could've been a blessing in disguise. You have him turn on Cole and boom, you've got your new top babyface right there. You have him wrestle with Cole as his manager and you turn him into one of the most hated heels.
Instead, they just have them quietly part ways? Seriously? I still don't get why WWE didn't take advantage of Michael Cole's heat and use it to make a new star.
Either way, Jack Swagger is above average on the mic. If there's one thing his world title reign last year taught us (other than that the creative team has no idea how to build stars) it's that Jack Swagger is a phenomenal wrestler and one of the best technical wrestlers in the company.
After Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker, he's probably theĀ third most athletic big man I've ever seen and when given time, he can put on some very solid matches.
Mic Skills: 6
In-Ring Skills: 8
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 20/30
10. Sheamus
18 of 28At first, I wasn't too fond of Sheamus. However, I will admit that over time, he has grown on me. His in-ring work has improved A LOT.
I remember the matches that he had with Randy Orton when he was WWE Champion last year and those were brutal to watch. I barely sat through them.
This year, some of his matches with Randy Orton hit the *** range. He's one of those guys that doesn't put on five star classics but is good on a consistent basis.
On the mic, he's improved as well. How many other monster heelsĀ have beenĀ able to work the mic like him?
Sheamus does happen to be a victim of poor booking. As I've already said a couple times in the column, WWE has no clue how to book monsters.
Instead of being an unbeatable monster, Sheamus gets RKO'd nearly every week. While he has been booked ridiculously, I cannot deny his talent, which is what this list is about.
Mic Skills: 7
In-Ring Skills: 7
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 20/30
9. Randy Orton
19 of 28"Randy Orton sucks because he got Mr.Ā Kennedy fired." "Randy Orton sucks because he got Kofi de-pushed." Ugh. Those arguments are STUPID!...STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
I don't know Randy personally so I can't judge him based him on how nice he is in real life. Even if I could, this list is not about that. It's about talent which is why Randy is No. 9.
Do I like the way Randy is booked? Hell no. The way he's been booked over the past year sucks. I don't know why WWE thinks that every top face must be a nice smiley, super good guy like John Cena.
It sort of works for Cena. It doesn't work for Orton. Signs of improvement are being shown in the booking. The way he lashed out at Christian at Money in the Bank was great.
People are more likely to cheer for Psycho Orton than they are for Super Orton. Just listen to the pop he got as soon as he went crazy. Let him be an anti-hero. One Superman is enough.
As for his talent, let's get right down to it. In the ring, he's not great but he's notĀ as bad as he's made out to be. Look at his matches with Triple H and Christian for reference.
He's portrayed his characters well for the most part. He was great as "The Legend Killer" (people seem to forget that), he was entertaining as "The Viper," and he's starting to adapt to the babyface style well.
His main weakness is mic skills. He sounds so robotic that it's not even funny. He's not as bad as someone like John Morrison, but he's not too far from that level.
Mic Skills: 5
In-Ring Skills: 8
Entertainment Value: 7
Final Score: 20/30
8. Daniel Bryan
20 of 28I'm a huge Daniel Bryan fan. He's arguably the best pure wrestler in the company. Even with the WWE limitations, he still puts on fantastic matches whenever he's given time. Last year, when he was consistently given time, he was one of the hottest wrestlers in the company.
The reason that he isn't higher on this list is because his mic skills aren't exactly top-notch and he's been a bit bland in WWE, so I can't give him a high score in entertainment value.
It might be a good thing to freshen his character up a bit by portraying him as a mixed martial arts master. Have him keep his current in-ring style but emphasize his kicks more.
Look at John Morrison. The "rockstar" persona or whatever he was supposed to be before was boring as hell. They added the parkour to his character and he's a whole new person.
They can do the same with Daniel Bryan. The great thing is that he doesn't have to turn heel and doesn't need a complete gimmick overhaul or anything. It's just a minor tweak that should be considered.
I hope WWE learned their lesson with Jack Swagger and give Daniel Bryan a nice, long run as Mr. Money in the Bank. Daniel Bryan has what it takes to beĀ a star. Now, they just need to push him to his full potential.
Mic Skills: 4
In-Ring Skills: 10
Entertainment Value: 6
Final Score: 20/30
7. Wade Barrett
21 of 28Coming in at No. 7, we've got former Nexus leader Wade Barrett. Remember how great Barrett was in that role? There was a point where I tuned in to RAWĀ just to see Barrett's promos.
Now, some people might make the argument that the Nexus was collectively over as a unit. While those people would be correct, can you imagine the original Nexus with David Otunga as the leader? Could you imagine the original Nexus with Heath Slater as the leader?
Clearly, Nexus was mostly over because of Wade Barrett.
In terms of talent, Barrett is great on the mic, which is why he gets aĀ 9Ā for mic skills. He still seems a little stiff in the ring, though,Ā which is why his score is fairly low but then again, I don't really have much to judge him on.
The only opponentsĀ that he's had extended, non-gimmicked matches with have been Randy Orton and Ezekiel Jackson. Maybe he'd be better against a better opponent. I don't know.
With that said, Barrett is a proven main eventer. He's also stayed fairly relevant outside of the main event picture, which earns him extra points. Honestly, I believe that Barrett can go back to being a credible top guy at any point.
Mic Skills: 9
In-Ring Skills: 5
Entertainment Value: 7
Final Score: 21/30
6. R-Truth
22 of 28He's a good R-Truth. At least, he has been since turning heel. Scratch that, he's been a f*cking awesome R-Truth since the heel turn.
It took WWE some time to pull the trigger but it has been a great decision on their part, as he's always seemed to be a lot more comfortable in that role. After CM Punk, Truth has been the second most consistently entertaining act on RAW ever since turning heel.
He's been showing his trueĀ personality and charisma since turning heel. He is less agile in the ring than he was several years ago, but keep in mind how old he is. The fact that at age 39 he works at the pace that he does is amazing in itself.
All in all, I think it's safe to say that he's the sixth best overall talent in WWE today.
Mic Skills: 9
In-Ring Skills: 6
Entertainment Value: 9
Final Score: 24/30
5. Christian
23 of 28Christian tops the list at No. 5. I don't think I need to describe this man's talent because his work speaks for itself.
Throughout his two stints with WWE, he's put on some of the most memorable matches in history and he's carried many opponents to top-notch matches.
The only thing keeping Christian from being No. 1 is that a couple of wrestlers slightly edged him out.
Mic Skills: 8
In-Ring Skills: 9
Entertainment Value: 8
Final Score: 25/30
4. The Miz
24 of 28Oh boy. I can just imagine the comments now. How could I have possibly ranked The Miz this high? I'm actually kind of shocked that some people still don't understand.
Just in case any of those people are reading this article, allow me to explain why The Miz deserves to be ranked as the No. 4 wrestler in WWE today and why I gave him the scores that I did:
-First and foremost, his mic skills. Some people don't see what the big deal is with his mic skills. One thing that has impressed me is his ability to work the crowd. Ever since day one, he's been able to get the crowd to sing-a-long with whatever catchphrase he was using. Whether it's "I'm Awesome," "Really?", or even "Hoo-Rah", he's always gotten the crowd to sing-a-long. How many other wrestlers can do that? The only ones that immediately come to mind are The Rock, Steve Austin,Ā Ric Flair, John Cena, and DX. I'd say that's not a bad group to be included in.
-Next is The Miz's in-ring ability. His in-ring ability is constantly criticized but I don't get why. He has a different style than someone like, say, John Morrison, but that doesn't mean that he's a worse wrestler. He puts on quality matches on a consistent basis. He's also had several matches that, in my opinion, hit the **** range. Those include the ones against Daniel Bryan last year, the one against John Morrison this year, and then the one with John Cena and John Morrison in the steel cage this year. Plus, how many other wrestlers can sell moves the way he can? The injury from Money in the Bank is a work yet it fooled many people with the way he sold it on RAW. He's improved. Saying that The Miz can't wrestle is so...2006.
-His ability to get others over. Don't tell me that Miz's feud with Daniel Bryan last year didn't do wonders for Bryan. Don't tell me that Miz's match with Morrison earlier this year didn't get Morrison over with the way Miz sold all of Morrison's moves. Don't tell me that Alex Riley isn't at a career-high right now because of The Miz. Hell, even Michael Cole who was borderline unbearable in 2009 got his character freshened up when he associated himself with The Miz. Numbers don't lie. That's four people he's helped get over.
-His ability to get himself over. Many wrestlers have gotten a run in the main event scene and then fallen into obscurity. On the other hand, whether he's in a tag team with Morrison, in a feud with Alex Riley, the United States Champion, or WWE Champion, Miz seems to always somehow stay relevant.
And there you go.
Mic Skills: 9
In-Ring Skills: 8
Entertainment Value: 8
Final Score: 25/30
3. John Cena
25 of 28Whoa. If I was going to get some heat for putting The Miz at No. 4, wait until people see John Cena at No. 3, right?
This shouldn't be a shock, though. When you really think about it, Cena deserves the scores he got here.
The "Cena has five moves" argument and the claim that he can't wrestle is lame. If he can't wrestle because he has a limited move-set, then nobody on the roster can wrestle.
WWE makes allĀ wrestlers tone down. Look at someone like Daniel Bryan, for example. Look at ROH Daniel Bryan and then look at WWE Daniel Bryan. There's a huge difference.
What a lot of people also don't realize is that after The Undertaker, Cena probably has the best track record when it comes to putting on quality matches over the past five years or so. He's not putting on a clinic on a consistent basis but he puts on several "Match of the Year" candidates every year.
His mic work is also great when he's not making poop jokes. Remember the rap earlier this year? The promo with Vince McMahon a few weeks ago? The promo with The Miz and The Rock in March?
I think a lot of us can agree that Cena, himself, doesn't suck. The booking sucks. If he was booked properly (like he was booked against CM Punk last Sunday), Cena could've easily been one of the most interesting and captivating characters right now.
Mic Skills: 10
In-Ring Skills: 9
Entertainment Value: 9

2. Triple H
26 of 28Triple H comes in at a whopping No. 2. Should he be on this list even though he hasn't wrestled since WrestleMania? I don't care. He was on TV last Monday so he's eligible.
This is another choice I feel like I don't have to explain. You look at all of the great matches that Triple H has put on and all of the classic promos that he's cut, and you'll see why he's so high on this list.
His current character is a bit stale, but a run as the heel Chairman should take care of that.

1. CM Punk
27 of 28Is anybody surprised?
There shouldn't be any debate here. Punk is the best all-around talent any way you look at it, and he's always been consistently good.
It's great to see that once he returns, he'll probably be the top face on RAW and will probably be the first properly-booked anti-hero since Steve Austin.
WWE doesn't do many things right, but they're clearly on the right path with CM Punk.

Final Thoughts
