WWE News: Possible Agreement with Ring of Honor Is Match Made in Heaven

Jun 7, 2018

CM Punk has become best known for his now epic shoot promo and the subsequent weeks of exciting television that he helped provide.

The turmoil he caused in the WWE over his contract dispute made the 2011 Money in the Bank pay-per-view one of the greatest in recent memory.

It was during Punk’s first promo about the unfairness of the WWE hierarchy that he started spurting off places he would go if he quit the WWE, and that’s when he mentioned Ring of Honor.

Ring of Honor is the best independent wrestling federation in the United States, and the talent that has come out of its ranks has gone on to win gold in every major federation in North America.

The federation's alumni include some of the greatest wrestlers in the world, including CM Punk, Abyss, Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles, as well as many more of the wrestlers you have come to love in TNA and the WWE.

With ROH's reputation as a career-building promotion, it looks as though the WWE is getting the message.Ā The Lords of Pain are reporting:

"

There are people in WWE who don't know this for sure but strongly suspect there is some kind of working agreement between Ring of Honor and WWE. There are also people in ROH who think the same thing. At the same time, people on both sides insist there is nothing going on between the two companies. Sources insist that some of the things CM Punk spoke about in his infamous RAW promo a few weeks back will start finding their way onto WWE TV soon. For example, Punk talked about Triple H taking over and he began that storyline on this week's RAW. Punk also mentioned John Laurinaitis and Colt Cabana, both who appeared on WWE TV in the past week. While Cabana wasn't named by the announcers, he was shown at ringside on Money in the Bank and was photographed with Punk and the WWE Title in Chicago after the pay-per-view. Punk also mentioned Ring of Honor, which adds to the speculation that WWE may be working with them.

"

When the ECW folded in 2000, the people in Philadelphia who were missing home-grown wrestling action had nowhere to turn.

In 2002 another local institution was born to quench that thirst, and it was named Ring of Honor.

I have been lucky enough to see a few ROH shows first hand, and the amount of talent that works them is unbelievable.

On most nights, I would rather go to a Ring of Honor show than a WWE or TNA live event.

The talent is trying harder to make names for themselves, but they are refined enough to be just one step away from the rings of major federations.

ROH is like the minor leagues of major wrestling, and a relationship would not only mean a straight shot for current ROH stars to the WWE, but other companies' stars who are ROH alums jumping ship to the WWE.

Stars like Samoa Joe, who doesn’t seem happy with his position in TNA, would be tempted to follow their former co-workers to the biggest stage in the world.

From an angle point of view, the WWE could use the invasion angle as they previously did with ECW. Just as I enjoyed Rob Van Dam and Tazz in ECW, and they went on to do bigger things, the stars of Ring of Honor we saw grow up will now show up in the WWE and become big stars.

My biggest hope is that the WWE uses the ROH guys as a stable—like the NWO was for WCW—which would help infuse a new blend of hard workers who need a chance to show their skills. ROH sports some of the best talkers in the business, and any help the WWE can get in that area is sorely needed.

Check back for more on the WWE as it comes, and check out Bleacher Report’s Wrestling Page to get your fill of the WWE.
