Fantasy Football 2011: Randy Moss in Freakish Shape, You Buying It?

Is it just agent talk or is Randy Moss prepared to perform like the Randy Moss of old?

Moss’ agent Joel Segal said of Moss: ”He is determined, motivated and quite frankly has a huge chip on his shoulder. Whatever team ends up getting Randy, they’re going to know they’re getting the old Randy Moss.”

If his claims are true, Moss can stay happy and motivated, and land in the right situation, he can put up huge numbers. This is, after all, the same receiver that torched Darrelle Revis with a one-hand highlight reel catch for a touchdown (click here to see the video).

Unfortunately for Moss, his mouth cost him not one, but two gigs. The Patriots simply had enough of Randy playing when he wants to play. They were actually better without him, though his presence could have helped against the Jets in the playoffs. His return to Minnesota did not go well either, but a lot of the blame goes to the rigid former coach Brad Childress. Moss landed in Tennessee to close the year out, but he may have well just spent the rest of the year on his couch. Moss caught just six passes for the Titans for 80 yards in eight games.

That finish has helped Moss get a Mock Draft Central ADP of 42 among wide receivers, which puts him in WR4 territory. How can you not take a shot on him as your WR4 when he could easily finish as a WR1 if he’s motivated. I know Moss is 34, but he still has speed. Plenty of good receivers have continued to produce well past 34.

The Super Freak has to be one of the hardest players to predict in 2011. Thankfully you won’t have to invest too heavily in him. That is if he doesn’t return to New England. If the Patriots take him back in an incentive-laden deal, look out. That said, the talk is that the Patriots aren’t interest in the reunion. Moss could possibly land with the Jets depending on what happens with Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. I know if he were to land with the Jets, there would definitely be two games he’d be circling on his calendar.
