Vince McMahon: Top 10 WWE Moments
Vincent Kennedy McMahon has accomplished many things in his life; he turned a regional wrestling promotion into a global conglomerate, he emerged victorious in the infamous โMonday Night Warsโ and he revolutionized the world of sports entertainment.
But this top 10 list is not dedicated to Vincent Kennedy McMahon. This list is dedicated to โMr. McMahon,โ the larger than life, in-ring persona of Vince that has brought fans some of the most shocking, humorous and ridiculous moments in WWE history.
10. Vince Takes a Beer Bath
1 of 11McMahon vs. Austin was the signature feud of the Attitude Era.
Stone Cold was the average-Joe anti-hero who did what every working-class man in America wanted to do: he stuck it to his boss week after week.
But Austinโs antics would never have been as great if Mr. McMahon wasnโt there to play the fool.
It doesnโt get much better than watching Austin spray Vince, his son and the โCorporate Champโ splashing around in beer, and there is no wonder why this is one of the most remembered moments of the Austin-McMahon rivalry.
9. The Strut
2 of 11Wrestling is filled with larger than life characters' over the top antics and Vinceโs signature stride was no exception.
Mr. McMahonโs strut is not a specific moment, but more a gauge of the evolution of the character. The more outlandish Vinceโs swagger to the ring was, the more outlandish the character was.
Vincentโs persona grew to be so eccentric that eventually he became just a bizarre parody of himself.
8. Mr. McMahon Wins the WWF Championship
3 of 11Vinnie Mac was more of a WWE personality than he ever was an actual wrestler, but that didnโt stop him from obtaining championship gold in the fall of 1999.
It took outside interference from Stone Cold and Shane McMahon as special guest referee for Vince to get the win, but that doesnโt change that fact โMr. McMahonโ is forever inked in the record books as a WWF Champion.
7. Mr. McMahon Dies
4 of 11Divorces, infidelities and family feuds: Vince put his whole life on display, and on June 11, 2007, Vince broadcast his own โdeath.โ
The angle was cut short due to Chris Benoitโs double murder/suicide, but that doesnโt change the fact that it was one of the wildest moments in Vincent Kโs career.
6. The "Kiss My Ass Club"
5 of 11What do William Regal, Jim Ross, Shawn Michaels, Shane McMahon, Mick Foley and Hornswoggle all have in common? They are all members of Mr.McMahonโs very exclusive โKiss My Ass Club.โ
Few โKiss My Ass Clubโ members entered willingly, but willing or not, any new inductees made for high comedy.
5. "Kiss My Ass Club" Backfires
6 of 11Being President of the โKiss My Ass Clubโ is a double-edged sword: sometimes you get to humiliate those who oppose you, but sometimes you get humiliated yourself.
This clip of Steve Austinโs botched induction ceremony shows that people escaping the club was always as entertaining as watching new members join.
If you watch just one clip in this entire slide show, make sure it is this one. It is over nine minutes long, but it is worth every second.
4. The Montreal Screwjob
7 of 11Some would argue that this was one of the lowest moments in Vince McMahonโs career.
No doubt it was devious, no doubt it was underhanded, but the move by the chairman helped to create what Mr. McMahon was and what he would become.
Every screw job that followed, kayfabe or otherwise, was a result of when happened in Montreal.
And the reason it belongs in this top 10 is Mr. McMahonโs unapologetic stance. Maybe Vincent regrets what he did to Bret Hart in front of his home crowd, but if you asked โMr. McMahon,โ he would probably say it was his proudest moment.
3. Mr. McMahon Wins the Royal Rumble
8 of 11Every now and then, the bad guy wins.
Mr. McMahon did everything he could to screw over Stone Cold Steve Austin before the 1999 Royal Rumble; he gave him the No. 1 entry position and offered $100,000 to anyone who eliminated the โTexas Rattlesnake.โ
But Commissioner Shawn Michaels had other plans, and he put the chairman and CEOย in the No. 2 spot.
Vince spent the entire Rumble behind the announcerโs table, and when it came down to him vs. Austin, he capitalized on a distraction from The Rock to notch a Royal Rumble victory and solidify another classic moment in the fabled career ofย VKM.
2. "You're Fired!"
9 of 11Much like the โMr. McMahon Strutโ the classic catchphrase โYouโre fired!โ evolved over the years, becoming more and more ridiculous each time it was said.
Everyone from Paul Heyman to Mick Foley heard those devastating two words. Even Donald Trump ended up on the wrong end of a โYouโre fired!โ
It was more than just a catch phrase and it was more than just a way of publicly humiliating people; it was Mr. McMahonโs way or reminding everyone that he was โthe boss.โ
1. Winning the "Monday Night War"
10 of 11Perhaps the greatest rivalry in wrestling history was WCW vs. WWF.
Every Monday night was a battle for ratings. For 18 straight months, WCW drew better ratings. WWF was the underdog, trying to overcome the juggernaut that was WCW and Ted Turner.
Eventually WWF would win the ratings war and most men would have considered WCWโs show cancellation on TNT and TBS as a win.
But not Mr. McMahon, he didnโt feel the war was won until he put the final nail in the coffin and bought WCW for pennies on the dollar, making WWF, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most powerful wrestling promotion on the planet. ย ย
The purchase of WCW and โInvasionโ story line that followed was a huge win for Vincent Kennedy McMahon, but it was also a win for the larger than life โMr. McMahon.โ
