Wrestling: WWE Missed Golden Opportunity to Cash in on Money in the Bank

David LevinJun 2, 2018

Can someone please tell me what just happened? After a night where it appeared that the WWE was on the right track, somehow, it seems the creative team has jumped from the train.

Monday night was supposed to be the most important night of the RAW brand in some time.  John Cena was assumed to be fired. CM Punk was off to greener pastures and Vince McMahon had come up with a way to help build his brand and bridge the gap with eight talented stars in a tournament to determine the new world title holder.

It all sounded good and all looked good on paper. And then McMahon, in the only way he knows how, throws us the curveball we had been waiting for all night- he is basically fired from his position in the company by none other than his son-in-law Triple H.

Classic drama and soap opera in wrestling. Bad time for this to be pulled off.

After four weeks of playing out a contractual nightmare and angle with CM Punk, Vince and his boys shined at Money in the Bank. People all across the net, including myself, could not wait to see what happened on RAW. We were treated to a title tournament as I predicted and then we would have seen John Cena officially fired from WWE.

It was a great plan. But the McMahon angle of being released from his duties within the WWE is crazy and grossly overplayed and frankly, it did not fit in with the program.

The final match between Rey Mysterio and The Miz should have been allowed to play out, but we will see it next week.

Cena went on a rant about how he loved the business and the WWE and if he was fired, he made overtures that he would go see Vince’s old buddy Hogan about wrestling in TNA, admittedly, my heart stopped there and I thought OMG, that would be awesome if it happened, but it never would.

There was to must disconnect with the evening’s program for there to be resolution and RAW should have given us that just 24 hours removed from the PPV.

WWE creative dropped the ball again. And because of the roster at the moment, the competitors in the title tournament show how watered down the RAW roster is compared to SmackDown. I could have seen Kofi Kingston replaced with Drew McIntyre or a Mason Ryan over a Rey Mysterio.

It was a chance to see more new blood in the title picture.

For everything at the PPV that was accomplished with youth being served, a new title holder on SmackDown in Christian and new rivalries that have to develop, again I was left a little empty and cheated.

I wanted drama. I wanted more competition. I wanted a champion. And I wanted resolution.

I got none of that.

Now what I want is an explanation as to how this whole thing will move forward with the unassembled parts. And, please, someone tell me how RAW’s creative team can fix what they adjusted after they had done everything to get fans like myself, interested and wanting to watch on Monday nights again.
