NBA Trade Rumors: Three Deals That Could Finally Get Andre Iguodala from 76ers
An uber-athlete and one of the most promising young talents in the league, Andre Iguodala was the subject of much of the pre-draft trade discussion until deals which included the likes of the Minnesota Timberwolves and or the Golden State Warriors were unable to materialize.
A member of the 2010 Gold medal FIBA World Championship team and NBA All-Defensive Second Team member, Iguodala's numbers were down last season, however he averaged a career high six assists during the regular season.
Now, with the lockout in effect, Iguodala, despite hinting at a desire to leave the Philadelphia 76ers, is stuck with them until a new collective bargaining agreement can be decided on.
Until then, the all around talented wing player is on ice, as he remains one of the players teams are keeping an eye on until the opportunity arises to make a move for him.
Here are three deals though that could get Iguodala off the Sixers though.
Iguodala to the Warriors for Monta Ellis
1 of 3Almost considered a done deal prior to the 2011 NBA Draft, the talks of a swap that would send guard Monta Ellis to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Iguodala seems to have died out.
However, the deal still seems plausible simply because of the talent exchanged between the two teams.
Golden State, which had already been entertaining the idea of trading away Ellis and who was vocal about his desire to play on a championship contender, drafted guard Klay Thompson, a possible sign of things to come.
So with the loss of offensively talented Ellis, the Warriors could acquire a slashing small forward / shooting guard in Iguodala, who while not the same scorer as him, plays significantly better defense than Ellis and would also be a welcomed fit on the young and athletic Warriors.
For the Sixers, they can move Evan Turner to the small forward position to accommodate Ellis who could possibly mesh nicely point guard Jrue Holiday.
If it ever does occur, it could be one of the most even deals for the Sixers, should they trade Iguodala.
Iguodala to the Los Angeles Clippers
2 of 3One of Iguodala's more desired destinations, the Los Angeles Clippers would obviously welcome a player of his talents and athleticism to match their already dominant force in All-Star and Rookie of the Year, Blake Griffin.
The mere thought of a duo of Griffin and Iguodala's caliber is a tantalizing thought for the Clippers, however, the deal is a harder sell for the Sixers, who were apparently offered former All-Star center Chris Kaman in exchange.
However, for the Sixers, just Kaman was not enough and while they even offered young forward Al-Farouq Aminu to sweeten the deal, it still wasn't enough to entice the Sixers.
However, should the Clippers decide to throw in their first round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, a deal could materialize, however, Kaman aside, the possibility of landing a capable and possibly franchise level talent in 2012 could get the Sixers to reconsider, maybe.
Los Angeles Lakers
3 of 3While teams like the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers welcome the idea of landing Iguodala, the Los Angeles Lakers have parts desirable enough to possibly make a deal happen.
The Lakers, who look to move past the triangle offense with which they have played with for the better part of the decade, would plan to shake up their offense under new head coach Mike Brown.
So why not add a young and athletic, slashing wing man like Iguodala to help lighten the load off of a battle worn Kobe Bryant and not getting any younger Pau Gasol?
Iguodala represents the injection of fresh new blood the Lakers look to add in exchange for unloading some of their talented, but behavior challenged members of their current roster.
Players like Ron Artest, promising big man Andrew Bynum and Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom are amongst some of the problem children whose talents the Lakers are hoping would overshadow their behavior in order to entice teams into a trade.
For the Sixers, a young talent int Bynum could be a worthwhile risk, especially if he could replicate the almost All-Star numbers he had been producing as of late. Add to that, a sixth man in Odom, who could possibly move into a starting power forward position over his former teammate in Elton Brand, giving Brand some rest or vice versa, and the deal seems plausible.
Its a bit of a stretch, but not a trade completely unrealistic.
