WWE: Will Rey Mysterio Ever Get a Shot at a Major WWE Title?

As Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio climbed opposite sides of the ladder at Money in the Bank, a championship title match was just a grab away for Mysterio.

As he momentarily grabbed the briefcase, Del Rio decided to rip off his mask, causing Mysterio to cover his face and fall to the floor. Del Rio then grabbed the briefcase and now carries that glorious opportunity to cash in his chance for the WWE Championship whenever he wants.

Will Mysterio ever get a shot at another WWE Championship? Or was that as close as he will ever get?

Mysterio has won the World Heavyweight Championship twice in his WWE career. Will he ever get a chance to win his third title?

If he does get that title opportunity and breaks through, it would put him in an elite category for major champions.

I haven’t been a fan of splitting brands between two shows because that means we have two major titles. There should be one “King of the Mountain” instead of two. Nevertheless, Mysterio would join wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and Mankind with three heavyweight championship reigns.

He would have more WWE title reigns than Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Randy Savage, Yokozuna, Ric Flair and Sycho Sid.

Should he be in the same discussions as these WWE greats? Not even close. Mysterio is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but I don’t think heavyweight division when somebody mentions his name.

With that being said, I believe Mysterio will win one more before his career is over. It helps tremendously that he has two belts to chase instead of one.

Possible future storyline: Alberto Del Rio cashes in his opportunity for a title shot and wins. Mysterio challenges Del Rio and Del Rio accepts with one stipulation. If he wins, Mysterio must say goodbye to his mask for good.

Sounds pretty intriguing to me.
