Houston-Minnesota: Texans Win Streak Frozen at Three

Matt Schaub did not play the second half with a knee injury and The Houston Texans win streak was halted at three in a 28-21 loss to the Vikings.

Schaub was tackled in the first half and came up hobbling. He played the rest of the half but Sage Rosenfels took over at quarterback in the second. Schaub completed 11 out of 16 passes, for 139 yards and one interception. Rosenfels completed 21 of 29 passes, for 224 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Steve Slaton had 16 carries for 62 yards and was the only player on the Texans that ran the ball. Owen Daniels led in receptions with 11 for 133 yards. Andre Johnson, who has had over 100 yards receiving in the last three games, was limited to 62 and one touchdown.

Gus Frerotte completed 11 passes out of 18, for 182 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Adrian Peterson carried the ball 25 times for 139 yards and one touchdown. Bernard Berrian led the Vikings in receiving with two receptions for 104 yards and one touchdown.

It took the Texans (3-5) until 9:31 in the third quarter to score an offensive touchdown. Rosenfels hit David Anderson on a three-yard pass, capping off a 10-play 72-yard drive, which took 5:32 and cut the Vikings lead to 21-14. The Texans other touchdown was off an interception return.

The Vikings (4-4) responded back in the fourth quarter. With 9:51 left in the game, Peterson ran for 21 yards to the Vikings’ 37. On second and ten, Peterson gained 22 yards on the ground to the Texans’ 41. Frerotte capped off the drive with a 25-yard pass to Visanthe Shiancoe to increase Minnesota’s lead to 28-14 with 6:32 left in the game.

Rosenfels led the Texans on another scoring drive. On fourth down and one at their own 42, Rosenfels completed an 11-yard pass to Daniels. Slaton picked up another first down catching a nine-yard pass to the Vikings 33. Daniels caught two more passes for 17 and 11 yards. Johnson ended the drive with a 14-yard touchdown bringing the Texans within 28-21.

The Texans attempted an onside kick but Darren Sharper of the Vikings recovered at the Houston 41. The Vikings were forced into a three-and-out giving the Texans another chance with 1:57 left in the game.

Rosenfels started the drive with an eight-yard pass to Daniels. On second down Rosenfels pass was incomplete. Jared Allen sacked Rosenfels for a loss of eight yards. On fourth and 10 Kevin Williams, sacked Rosenfels for an eight-yard loss ending the Texans hopes of a comeback.

The Texans will host the Ravens (5-3) next week. The game was originally scheduled in Week 2 but was postponed because of Hurricane Ike. The Vikings will host the Packers (4-4).

The Vikings scored first against the Texans. Frerotte completed a 55-yard pass to Berrian on the first play of the game. Peterson finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown.

The Texans first drive stalled at their own 41 and had to punt. However, the Texans would get on the board. Jacque Reeves intercepted Frerotte and took it 35 yards to tie the game at seven.

After exchanging punts, the Vikings took the lead for good in the second quarter. Frerotte led the Vikings on a 13-play 47-yard drive, which ended with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice.

The Texans turned the ball over on their next two possessions. Now while the Vikings did not take advantage of the first turnover, they did on the second one. Frerotte completed a 49-yard pass to Berrian to give the Vikings a 21-7 lead.
