WWE Money in the Bank 2011: Five Reasons Why This Could Be the Death of the WWE
Is Everyone excited for Money in the Bank?
I know I am...
Is everyone excited to see if their predictions come true?
So am I!
Is everyone ready to see their favorite WWE superstars compete for the opportunity to win the elusive Money in the Bank contract?
Of course!
Who's excited for CM Punk vs. John Cena?
This guy is!
Is everyone ready to watch which door the WWE will open and lead us through?
I'm scared
... and you all should be, too.
Here are five reasons why Money in the Bank could spell the demise of the WWE.
1. If Alberto Del Rio Wins the Raw Money in the Bank
1 of 5Listen, I'm a big Del Rio fan, and I've already written a full spread article about why him winning is terrible, lazy booking on the part of the WWE, but him winning spells out a couple things in big red letters.
1. Forget about the youth movement
It's over if Del Rio wins, not like they even gave it a chance to get going, but this essentially kills it. Del Rio is a top guy who doesn't need the briefcase to stay "relevant."
Guys like Alex Riley, Kofi Kingston, and R-Truth need it more than him. I would even dare to say the Miz could gain some swagger back from repeating.
Sure Del Rio has cooled off in the minds of people, but don't give him the luxury of winning the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank in the same year while also being the current No. 1 contender.
2. The WWE is dishonoring everything MITB stands for
This is simple. Why bother to have a match that gives you the power to make mid-card talent credible in the eyes of the public if you're just going to give it to someone who is already credible?
"Hey man, can you spare some change? I need to buy medicine for my sick child."
"Sorry, no can do, I already gave it to that guy in the suit over by his Hummer."
3. We already know the ending to the CM Punk/John Cena match
Why kill all the hype, all the momentum, all the speculation before it even gets started... More on this later.
2. Someone Not Named Cody Rhodes or Wade Barrett Wins Smackdown's MITB
2 of 5A couple reasons why:
While giving the Raw Briefcase to Del Rio would be a complete travesty; giving the briefcase to Sheamus is equally insulting. We all know that Sheamus is about to become entrenched (finally!) in the World Heavyweight Championship scene for the foreseeable future.
Again, why give him the push when he's already near the ceiling?
Wade Barrett is about to become the next big thing, and here is the perfect platform to do this. If Sheamus wins? Wave bye bye to Barrett becoming a next level player anytime soon. This is not a good move for the WWE. He just dropped his IC title to Ezekiel Jackson so he's in prime position to be given something else to hold onto.
The WWE will send bright light signals about how they feel about the youth movement on Sunday. They very well may be administering the drug that slowly kills them.
Can we all agree that in order for this company to strive now that the likes of: HHH, Undertaker, Michaels, Bautista, Jericho, and potentially CM Punk are gone they need to make somebody legit soon? How much longer can we watch Cena, Orton, Christian, Del Rio, the Miz, and Sheamus? They need to push more talent. Half the people I just mentioned aren't even booked properly anyway... I have a headache from this now.
Cody Rhodes is in prime position to gain massive momentum from a push up the ladder towards the briefcase. I don't think he'll win, but wouldn't be upset if he does. He's on his way gimmick or no gimmick. Barrett needs the case to be back in peoples minds as a threat.
Is it sad that I have no faith in the WWE to do any of this? Probably.
Will we, in all likely-hood, watch Sheamus (already a two time WWE Champion) win? Yes.
If I see Christian run into the ring and push the ladder over on Sheamus as he's about to grab the briefcase, I will officially become a peep for roughly 30 seconds.
They Continually Mock the Divas Division
3 of 5Every single prediction you read about the Diva's (that's their first problem) Championship match is quickly followed by "I really don't care for this match."
Divas? that's one hell of a connotation to put on the WOMEN who give up their bodies, and home lives just like the men do every single night.
They have to know they're a joke division right?
I feel terrible saying that, but It's not our fault me, you, the guy sitting in the front row, or the guy sitting in the nose bleeds feels that way. It's the WWE's.
Kelly Kelly (beautiful woman) Vs. Brie Bella (another beautiful woman) is a better pay-per-view draw then the likes of Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Melina, and Natalya? All WRESTLERS by the way, and still beautiful.
I went to Raw last Monday night in Boston and when the woman's match began you would have thought there was a fire in the building. Everyone booked it for the concession stands, bathrooms, took naps, read a book, you name it they did it besides watch the "match".
How is that good for the company?
How is that good for a younger generation of female wrestling fans to see the lack of respect these women get every night. It's a shame.
The WWE should be ashamed of themselves.
WWE Doesn't Properly Book Punk Vs.Cena
4 of 5We are now to the meat and potatoes of how the WWE can screw up one of the must hyped pay-per-views and matches of the year while officially driving the knife through the hearts of millions at the same time. I have no doubt that if things unravel poorly in Chicago the WWE will lose a lot of fans...good fans.
I feel as though the WWE with the way it is selling the Punk/Cena match, we have reached the point of no return.
Can we possibly return to the boring, watered down, predictable programming we have had shoved down our throats?
Not after the mic work of a Phillip Brooks, we can't!
We have been given water after crawling through the desert. We have been shown the light of a bright future. Will WWE really pull the plug on all of this within the course of one night?
My lack of faith and my heart are telling me two different things at the moment.
If Punk pins Cena, I will immediately begin to pray that Del Rio, if he in fact does win the Raw MITB, does not come prancing out to ruin the mood and atmosphere of the moment.
If Cena pins Punk cleanly... I will likely throw up, and then immediately regret ever getting back into professional wrestling. Dramatic? Yes. True? Definitely.
If Punk pins Cena (thanks to Mr. McMahon or cleanly, I don't care) and Del Rio does not win the MITB. We will all be witness to a revolution that is long overdue.
Even the biggest PG, red t-shirt wearing, Cena and Orton fan can agree. We need this. The company needs this.... I need this!
CM Punk Is Not Re-Signed
5 of 5How many people out there really feel like July 17, 2011 will actually be CM Punk's last day with the company?
I don't...
However, if this really is his last match and he doesn't walk out of Chicago with the WWE Championship then the WWE has signed its own death certificate. Without Punk how does the WWE even remotely try to stay as relevant commercially as it is now?
Besides the fact that losing a top tier talent in Punk would cripple the roster, and give even more reasons for T.V. sales and merchandise numbers to drop.... this has much deeper meaning than their financial bottom line.
CM Punk will be yet another, bright shining star to walk out of the WWE. What does that tell fans?
You know what it tells me?
They don't care what I think. They don't care that we love these superstars, and care for great storytelling. They don't care if their superstars walk out due to worries about health, family, or mental well being, the insane travel schedule, injuries, technical wrestling skills, the art that wrestling can be, what the fans (cough cough Ryder) want to see... They don't care about any of it.
They don't care because they're all replaceable, and we as fans, will continue to watch and again pray that change will happen.
This is the time for change. This can be the start of something new and fresh, the stage is set for something epic to occur, but they don't care.
Then why should we?
... and that's the scary part of CM Punk not resigning.
