Impact Wrestling: TNA Will Impress Us Tonight with Subplots and Results

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Now that the cat is out of the bag about tonight and what happens on Impact, maybe we can all see the bigger picture.

It was said earlier this week by a fellow writer here on Bleacher Report that Sting will reclaim the world title tonight from Mr. Anderson and that Sting and Hulk Hogan wrestle for the TNA world title.

Based on what has been said in the wrestling media, I think there are more subplots along the way on the road toward a Sting/Hogan showdown.

I agree that giving the title back to Sting at 52 years old is nuts, but there are reasons for it that we shall see in the near future.

If we can believe Hogan, then he will turn face, leave Immortal, and challenge the power of Eric Bischoff.

But, what if there is another story we have not thought about yet?

Last weekend’s Destination X was outstanding in that it created a buzz for the cruiserweights and also set up a big night for Impact Wrestling tonight with Sting challenging Mr. Anderson for the title.

Anderson, who allied himself with Immortal, may be on the outs again, and this would set up a pretty interesting scenario.

Just work with me here.

What if, for the sake of everything we know about TNA storylines, the history of WCW, and the fact that some things being done now mirror the now-defunct organization, Mr. Anderson does another about face?

Right now, Sting and Kurt Angle are fighting the good fight, but with Anderson losing the title—which will happen, although we are not sure how—he may be on the outs with Immortal and may finally have a change of heart and side with his nemeses, Sting and Angle.

And, what if, for the sake of argument, we see Abyss, who was visibly shaken by losing last weekend to Brian Kendrick, take it out on Bully Ray after the match, turn face, and join the faction?

Hmmm. While it looks as though Fortune may be dissolved, another faction is formed.

Funny how that happens.

The point I am trying to make is that before Hogan can make his “dramatic” face turn and become the good guy we were used to as children, there needs to be more build up.

Impact is in a good position now: It can stretch the boundaries a little bit.

With the “Bound For Glory” Series moving along at a popular pace—there is a lot of action in the X-Division following the PPV, and the Knockouts still have momentum—a Hogan face turn and a Sting title run are a good things.

When the BFG Series is complete, the Knockouts finally get to a point where there are more women involved in the division, and there is some more balance in the show, then TNA can make a serious charge at the WWE.

Right now, Vince and the boys are riding a verbal joust between CM Punk, John Cena, and the owner, which cannot last since there has to be resolution in one swoop.

TNA’s subplots have some legs and can run for a while.

But until we actually see what goes on tonight and find out what the fallout is from Sunday, we cannot know what will happen in the future, even if we know tonight’s outcome.

We still need to see if Daniels turns on AJ Styles and what happens with Fortune. We still need to see if an edgier Jerry Lynn continues to battle RVD and what happens when Alex Shelley gets a crack at the X-Division title from Kendrick.

Oh, and also looking at us in the face is the BFG Series matches tonight—we get see if Samoa Joe continues to slide like a cat on a stripper pole. (I had to throw that in; I was actually thinking of Ms. Tessmacher.)

But until tonight, we just don’t know.
