College Football: No. 7 Prospect John Theus Names Top Three Schools

Zach DirlamJul 10, 2011

Five-star offensive tackle and the No. 7 overall prospect according to Rivals.com, John Theus (Jacksonville, FL), cut his list of schools down to three on Friday.

The 6'6", 292-pound Bolles High School standout, who has been heavily recruited since his sophomore year of high school, told Orangebloods.com the final three schools in the running for his services are the University of Texas, the University of Florida and the University of Georgia.

There is no clear favorite as to who will end up receiving a verbal commitment from Theus, but if I had a guess I would say Georgia is the leader because his older brother Nathan Theus is currently playing for the Bulldogs.

"Me and my brother said we would make our own decisions," Theus said. "So he did that, and it does help Georgia having my brother because we are close, but it doesn't mean I'm a shoo-in to go there."

Regardless of where Theus decides to go, he knows all of his final three schools have a lot to offer.

"They're three big-time programs that are also very good schools academically. I know the whole coaching staff at Florida and Georgia and they're very good coaching staffs and very caring for their kids," Theus said.

For the time being, Theus has no idea when he will decide on a school but says he will not commit until he is ready.

"Right now I have no clue. When I know I'm going to go ahead and commit, but it could be anywhere from next week to the middle of the season to the Army All-American game. I'm not really sure. I know I want to go out and visit Texas," Theus said.

"I could commit before then but I'm not sure yet. Right now everything is up in the air.  I think about committing a lot and my schools because I'm down to my top three but I have no definite plans on when I'm going to commit."
