TNA Destination X: Predicting What Should Be a Great Show
TNA Destination X has arrived!Ā This all X-Division show is stacked with matches that all have the potential to be Match of the Night or even Match of the Year.Ā
The X-Division has been a shell of its former self since Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff came in, but things are starting to pick up.Ā Since the announcement that the PPV would be an all X-Division show with the return of the six-sided ring, the spotlight has been put on the stars in the division.Ā
The past few weeks of Impact Wrestling have been must-watch television, and Destination X is a must-watch PPV.Ā
So letās get started!
Douglas Williams’ Open Challenge
1 of 8This past Thursday on Impact Wrestling Douglas Williams said he was upset about being left off the card and will be issuing an open challenge at the PPV.Ā The possibilities are endless here.Ā
Who will accept Williamsā challenge?Ā The only X-Division stars left on the roster who arenāt in matches are Eric Young and Generation Me.Ā I canāt see it being any of them, though.Ā
It wouldnāt be very exciting to see someone from the current roster accept the challenge.Ā It will no doubt be a returning star.Ā
But who?Ā Will we see someone who lost a qualifying match step up or will it truly be a surprise?Ā Personally, I hope itās the āCanadian Destroyerā Petey Williams.Ā It could really be anyone, though.Ā No matter who it is, this should be a great match and Williams will come out on top.
Winner: Douglas Williams
Zema Ion vs. Jack Evans vs. Low-Ki vs. Austin Aries: Winner Gets a Contract
2 of 8The past four weeks have been a shining example as to what the X-Division is all about.Ā The four triple-threat matches these men participated in were all Match of the Night when they aired.Ā
When I watched these matches it reminded me of the X-Division of old.Ā They were all very fast-paced, high-flying and had good wrestling.Ā
WWE made a huge mistake in underutilizing and later granting the release of Low-Ki.Ā Ki is one of the best the X-Division has ever seen.Ā
The standout performer here will be Jack Evans.Ā He blew me away this past Thursday and thereās no doubt heāll do it again.Ā This one is hard to predict, though.Ā
Does TNA give one of the newcomers a chance to work in a division where theyād thrive, or do they give it to a former star?Ā If I had my way all four would have contracts.Ā I have a strong feeling Jack Evans will come out victorious, though.
Winner: Jack Evans
Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn
3 of 8These two men have had great battles back in the days of ECW.Ā To put it simply: They tore down the house every time they went at it.Ā
RVD has proven he can still go.Ā Heās still the same āWhole Fān Showā he was in ECW when he was āX-Division before there was an X-Division.āĀ
This past week on Impact Wrestling, Jerry Lynn was the standout performer in the four corners match and showed everybody watching that heās still got it.Ā
There isnāt a doubt in my mind these two wonāt deliver.Ā In fact, if they didnāt deliver at least a four-star match Iād be surprised.Ā Unless Lynn is staying in TNA after the PPV, I canāt see him winning.Ā Expect the victory to go to Rob Van Dam!
Winner: Rob Van Dam
Samoa Joe vs. Kazarian
4 of 8Personally, I would have preferred to see Samoa Joe in the match with Styles and Daniels and for Kazarian to be in Ultimate X instead of Robbie E, but this is what we've got and I can live with it.Ā
Both men are great wrestlers and should put on a great match.Ā Since Fortune has been out of the spotlight, Kaz has been going nowhere.Ā Joe, though, is on a losing streak.Ā Both wrestlers need this victory, but I think Joe needs it a bit more.
Winner: Samoa Joe
Alex Shelley vs. Robbie E vs. Shannon Moore vs. Amazing Red: Ultimate X Match
5 of 8The Ultimate X is always a spectacle to watch.Ā All the Ultimate X matches put on by TNA have rarely disappointed.Ā This should be no different.Ā
Alex Shelley is no doubt the favorite going into this match, but heās followed closely by Amazing Red.Ā I canāt see Robbie winning this at all.Ā His gimmick has been a total bust and his title reign was a complete waste of time.Ā
The only one here to never hold the X-Division Title is Shannon Moore.Ā I donāt think itās his time, though.Ā
This will no doubt be a great match with some insane spots.Ā As for the winner, Iām torn between Shelley and Red, but I think Iām going with Alex Shelley becoming the challenger for the X-Division Title.
Winner: Alex Shelley
Abyss vs. Brian Kendrick: X-Division Title
6 of 8Brian Kendrick is an odd guy, but Abyss is more odd.Ā While Kendrick speaks of religion, Abyss speaks of war. This match should be a good one.Ā Itās your classic David vs. Goliath.Ā
Kendrick will have use his speed to avoid the power of the monster.Ā Kendrick has also gotten in Abyssā head recently.Ā This past week Kendrick stole Abyssā mask and called it a security blanket.Ā He said Abyss needed to shed the mask to truly be whole. Abyss went nuts and took Kendrick out.Ā
Is this Kendrickās time or will Abyss be meeting the winner of the Ultimate X match?Ā I think itās finally Kendrickās time to shine.
Winner and new champion: Brian Kendrick
A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels
7 of 8What can be said about this match that won't be said by everyone else?Ā
Weāve seen it beforeāmultiple times actually.Ā Each and every time these two wrestlers have put on a five-star showcase in the ring.Ā Will they do it again?Ā I have no doubts whatsoever.Ā
Both are extremely talented in the ring and work incredibly well together.Ā Expect this to be Match of the Night and a possible Match of the Year candidate.Ā
As for the winner, itās hard to say.Ā With Fortune starting to fade it would benefit both men to get the win.Ā With Styles in the Bound for Glory Series, though, a loss to someone who isnāt in the series could make him look weak in the eyes of the viewers.Ā Iām going with the phenomenal one.
Winner: A.J. Styles
Conclusion
8 of 8Destination X has the potential to be a truly phenomenal show.Ā Every match on the card could deliver at least a four-star match.Ā I can see at least two matches delivering that extra star.Ā
While Slammiversary IX was a great show from top to bottom, I think Destination X can and will surpass it.Ā From A.J. Styles vs. Daniels to Ultimate X to RVD vs. Jerry Lynn, this is a PPV to check out.Ā
TNA has been a role lately in terms of Impact Wrestling and PPVs, and thereās no sign of them slowing down.Ā This is definitely going to be the summer of TNA!
