New Jersey Nets' Nightmare

Sean StancillJan 25, 2008

The Golden State Warriors are a intriguing team; a team that features youth, immense talent, and great overall potential.

The New Jersey Nets however posses none of the above, and it was on display last night as the Warriors held on to win 121-119.

Second year man Monta Eliis had a career night scoring 39 pts in 41 minutes. Richard Jefferson put in 34 points to lead all Nets scorers.

Don Nelson cameĀ up with the strategy of intentionally fouling 34 percent FT shooter Josh Boone midway through the third quarter. NelsonĀ ordered the fouls on three straight Nets' possessions and Boone responded by making 4-of-6 and the strategy almost contributed to the Warriors demise.

Boone also had 21 points and 17 rebounds—Ben Wallace is the NBA's worst free throw shooter in league history at 41.9 percent—Boone would have the title but Boone has not taken the minimum number of attempts to qualify.

Vince Carter blew yet another game for theĀ Nets.Ā  It remains a mystery why they signed him to a five-year contract extension this past off season.

Carter is injury-prone and an underachiever in the closing minutes of games when they are on the line. The forward’s performance in the game was dĆ©jĆ  vu of Dwyane Wade's performance earlier in the night; trying way too hard to imitate Kobe Bryant and coming up short.

I expect Carter to be on the Trading Block as well as Jason Kidd (who had a near triple double last night 6-8-12).

Here are five things the Nets could have done with the $60 million that they wasted onĀ Carter

1. The Nets could have used that money to lure Gerald Wallace away from Charlotte, a far better scorer and defensive player than Carter.Ā

2.Ā  The Nets could have used that money to sign Rashard Lewis to a deal and placed him in the two guard spot.

3. The Nets could have held on to the money until the next offseason to attract Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, orĀ even Wizard’s Gilbert Arenas.

4. The Nets could have waited until draft day and bought picks from teams around the leagueĀ to prepare for their future.

5. The Nets could have signed Mo Williams and run small ball at the guard position.

Now for the Best Point Guard in the League Jason Kidd; here are five things that the Nets should do with Kidd (that are best for The Nets and Kidd):

1. Trade Kidd to the Lakers for cash, first round draft pick, and Lamar Odom.

2. Trade Kidd to the Kings for Mike Bibby and John Salmons

3. Trade Kidd to the Bulls for Tyrus Thomas and Chris Duhon

4. Trade Kidd to the Bobcats for Gerald Wallace

5. Trade Kidd to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Larry Hughes, 1st Round Draft Pick, and Anderson Varejao
