Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours: 5 Biggest Stories Surrounding Spurs
This could become one of the biggest transfer windows in Tottenham Hotspur history. They will not be returning to the Champions League next year, but they would like to return soon.
The Spurs have great players that could be on their way out. They also have great players that could be on their way in. There is nothing set in stone, but a lot could happen to Spurs in the next two months.
There are always rumours buzzing in the summer, and I have sifted through a bunch of them and organized five of the biggest stories that involve Spurs. Please let me know if you have heard anything new since I published this article, or if you have any input on the rumours that I have already posted.
Pablo Osvaldo Is a Big Target
1 of 5Tottenham Hotspur continue to pursue Espanyol's Pablo Osvaldo. He can score goals, and he is not afraid to take on any defender.
According to Darren Lewis, Spurs are battling a few other clubs, and they will need to pony up in order to attain the striker. From Spurs' perspective, it would be worth it to go after the Italian-Argentine.
Spurs are keen on getting a striker, and Osvaldo would be a fantastic addition to their squad. If they could get him for a decent price (under £20 million), there would be no reason for Spurs to pass on him.
Asamoah Gyan Is Becoming a Target
2 of 5Asamoah Gyan had a solid debut in the Premier League last season, and he was able to score double digit goals in a shortened season (he only played in 31 matches).
Although Gyan claims he loves Sunderland (which should be true, they do love him), his agent keeps leaving the door open on whether or not he will stay. Spurs have shown interest, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a serious offer.
Gyan is a proven Premier League goal-scorer, and Spurs would be foolish not to pursue someone that has the ability to score against the top teams in the league.
Luka Modric Wants to Leave
3 of 5Luka Modric had a great season. For some reason, he feels that gives him the right to demand a departure from White Hart Lane.
The Croatian international has played well for Spurs, but he seems to be done with this London squad. According to reports, he has demanded to be transferred to Chelsea. Now, the ball is in Harry Redknapp's (and Daniel Levy's) court.
As a Chelsea fan, I don't see why Spurs shouldn't make this move. Modric clearly wants out, and why would they want to keep a disgruntled player? If they can make the £22 million offer closer to £30 million, Spurs would be making out with a fantastic profit.
Giuseppe Rossi Is Back in the Mix
4 of 5Tottenham Hotspur nearly acquired Giuseppe Rossi in January, but they were unable to close the deal. Now, however, they seem to want the striker once again.
Rossi is still young, but he is already an established goal-scorer. He has scored over 50 goals in his four seasons at Villarreal, and some are simply spectacular. If Spurs could add this type of goal-scorer and finisher, they could return to the Champions League.
Rossi continues to develop as a player. If Spurs could acquire him now, they could have a potential 20 goal-scorer on their squad for years to come.
Gareth Bale: To Sell or Not to Sell
5 of 5Gareth Bale is one of the most dynamic players Tottenham Hotspur have had in a long time. He is one of the best wingers in the world today. If he stays healthy, he could potentially become one of the best wing players of all-time.
Ok, so it's probably a bit early for that speculation. Still, watching Bale work is entrancing, and he can make a difference in every match.
Unfortunately for Spurs, big clubs have noticed. While Manchester United may not be the most serious potential buyer (Juventus and Inter Milan are also in the mix), they are the most dangerous for Spurs. Tottenham would rather not see their prized possession in a different uniform. Twice each year.
Consequently, I think Spurs will hold onto Bale for as long as possible. At the end of the day, though, it is simply too tough to turn down so much money. If they are able to get more than £35 million for Bale, I don't see how Spurs could keep the star winger.
