Seeking Revenge: Miguel Cotto Agrees to Antonio Margarito Rematch
It looks like Miguel Cotto will get his chance to make Antonio Margarito pay after all. The two, who had an extremely violent and controversial fight in 2008, will once again step in the ring at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 3.
Cotto (36-2, 29 KO), the WBA Jr. Middleweight Champion, was defeated by 11th-round TKO in his first fight with Margarito. In the fight, Cotto dominated the early going but the Tijuana Tornado seized the action at the midway point, bloodying and reconfiguring Cotto's face.
In Margarito's next fight, against Sugar Shane Mosley, it was discovered in the dressing room that his hands were being wrapped with a plaster substance. This is highly illegal and dangerous for boxing.

Margarito (38-7, 27 KO) would go on to be knocked out by Mosley and had his boxing license revoked as punishment for the serious infraction. To this day he claims to have had no knowledge of the illegal substance in his hand wraps.
This led many skeptics to question whether Margarito's victory over Cotto was legitimate. Many pointed to the sudden and severe damage done to Cotto's face as proof that something wasn't quite right.
Cotto, who has rebounded nicely from the loss, will be seeking to gain a measure of revenge against a fighter considered a pariah by most in the boxing community.
Since the loss he is 4-1 with notable victories over Joshua Clottey and Yuri Foreman. The only loss came against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Margarito has been largely inactive, mostly due to the suspension, and is 1-1 with a victory over lightly regarded Roberto Garcia and a lopsided and brutal loss to Manny Pacquiao.
