UFC 132 Results: 5 Fights Rafael Dos Anjos Should Take Next

Andrew MahlmannJul 3, 2011

Rafael Dos Anjos is a serious player in the UFC lightweight division.

He did not just bounce back from a jaw-injury loss to contender Clay Guida; he knocked out a man who seemed to be steam-rolling to a title shot just six months ago.

Dos Anjos is known for his incredible ground skills, but at UFC 132, he showed that his striking has truly improved by leaps and bounds.

What is next for Dos Anjos? What kind of test does he need?

Here are the top five fights Rafael Dos Anjos should take next.

5. John Makdessi

1 of 5

One of the lightweight division's best upcoming strikers.

Makdessi has won his first two UFC fights and looks like he has the determination and focus to be a handful for just about any lightweight in the UFC.

4. Anthony Njokuani

2 of 5

If Rafael Dos Anjos thinks his Muay Thai is coming along great, he may want to think twice before trading with Anthony Njokuani.

Njokuani was also successful at UFC 132, but he needs to be tested against a grappler of Dos Anjos's caliber.

3. Dennis Siver

3 of 5

Another victorious lightweight striker from UFC 132. Siver's performance was not as dominant as Njokuani's but he represents a higher level in the division.

This fight would certainly help sort out the upper-middle levels of the UFC lightweight division.

2. Joe Lauzon

4 of 5

Lauzon is a bonus machine. In six of his last seven fights, he has won either "submission of the night" or "fight of the night."

He is a dangerous opponent, especially in the first round, but Lauzon needs to refine his strategy to be competitive against someone like Dos Anjos in the deep waters.

1. Anthony Pettis

5 of 5

If Dos Anjos thinks he is ready for the upper levels of the lightweight division, then Anthony Pettis would be the man to put him there.

Pettis has had a lot of hype and attention recently. Pettis is 24 and Dos Anjos 26. This would be a great scrap.
