5 Fights to Get Urijah Faber Back on Track

Vince CareyJun 7, 2018

Following a close decision loss to Dominick Cruz at UFC 132, Urijah Faber is at a crossroads in his career.

He has now lost four straight title fights and is in serious danger of losing his standing as one of the best fighters in the 135-pound division.

Faber will need a big win to come back from his latest performance, so here are some fights that make sense for "The California Kid."

Dominick Cruz

1 of 5

Let’s be honest, no one would complain if they set up an immediate rematch.

Cruz and Faber put on an incredible fight and put the lighter weight divisions on the map, showing off the speed and incredible conditioning these weight classes bring to the table.

Faber is a marketable fighter, he thinks he won the fight and it was close enough that they can make the fight without having to answer very many questions.

It makes sense to try it one more time.

Scott Jorgensen

2 of 5

Another fighter who recently suffered a loss to Cruz, Jorgensen is coming off a big win at the TUF 13 finale, where he knocked out Ken Stone early in the fight.

It’s always good for former title challengers to be matched up against each other to show which one is ready for another shot, and Faber could use a fight that isn’t quite as high profile.

This could end up being a very entertaining fight and a decent addition to a future card.

Brian Bowles

3 of 5

Bowles is on a decent streak at the moment, winning again last night against a top-10 opponent in Takeya Mizugaki.

A win over a former bantamweight champion like Bowles would be a huge win for Faber and Bowles is likely still a win away from a shot to regain his belt.

The only thing that may prevent this fight from going down is the lack of contenders at 135. Bowles may get the next title shot by default, since there isn’t really anyone ranked ahead of him other than the champ.

Kid Yamamoto

4 of 5

This fight was a dream matchup for MMA fans a few years ago, and while both guys have lost some of their luster, I think this would still get a lot of fans excited.

Yamamoto is actually set to fight Damacio Page at UFC 135 in September, but there is always a chance that Faber could get thrown in there.

This might not make the most sense from a matchmaking perspective, but a lot of fans have wanted to see this fight for a long time, and it would definitely be exciting.

Miguel Torres

5 of 5

This is a fight fans have been asking for since both Faber and Torres were WEC champions.

Both guys throw some seriously unorthodox strikes, and the ground game would feature some crazy transitions every time it hit the mat.

Two former WEC champions coming off high profile losses?

Count me in.
