UFC 132 Results: What's Next for the Main Card Winners

First LastJun 7, 2018

UFC 132 is over and it was a card to remember.

In the main event, UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz fought in five fast-paced rounds to successfully defend his title against former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber.

Also on the card, Tito Ortiz earned his first victory since 2006 while Carlos Condit and Chris Leben picked up big knockout wins in the opening round of their bouts.

The other main card fight featured dangerous striker Dennis Siver and "Handsome" Matt Wiman. Siver won a controversial three-round decision.

These are the next steps that each winner should take in their careers.

Carlos Condit Defeats Dong Hyun Kim by Technical Knockout in Round 1

1 of 5

Korean prospect Dong Hyun Kim entered his UFC bout with Carlos Condit with a 5-0-1 record in the Octagon and was undefeated overall in his MMA career.

The winner of this fight was expected to get the next title shot, but it all depended on one thing—how they won.

Condit did what he did in 25 of his 26 victories and finished Kim with a vicious flying knee and follow-up strikes to earn the knockout victory in the very first round.

With this victory, Condit opens the door for a shot at the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, and every MMA fan should welcome a fight with either.

Some would question his chances against the superior wrestler in GSP, but it's exciting fights fans want and Condit never disappoints in that category. A fight with Diaz would also be a gureling bout between two guys who are very hard to finish and aren't afraid to fight their opponents where they are strongest.

Tito Ortiz Defeats Ryan Bader by Submission (Guillotine Choke) in Round 1

2 of 5

Former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz made a resurgence with his impressive victory over Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan "Darth" Bader.

Ortiz did two things in this fight fans haven't seen in a long time—dropped his opponent and submitted him.

It all occurred in the opening minutes of the first round, and it was a much-needed victory for the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy," who hasn't won a fight since 2006 when he defeated Ken Shamrock.

While I'm sure many wished Ortiz would retire after having such a highlight career performance, he will continue to fight on.

Maybe he can take on the winner of Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Dennis Siver Defeats Matt Wiman by Unanimous Decision

3 of 5

Over three rounds of lightweight action, German kickboxer Dennis Siver picked up his fourth straight win after defeating Matt Wiman by a three-round unanimous decision.

Siver was bloodied in the second round, and it appeared to be even going into the third at one round a piece. It was a close and competitive third round, but Wiman probably deserved the edge on the scorecards.

With the victory, Siver is in line for a top 10 opponent, but the lightweight division will remain scuffled until Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard have their third bout.

A rematch with Melvin Guillard (46-9-2) might be welcomed, but Guillard looked impressive in defeating Shane Roller so that might not happen. Guillard knocked out Siver in under a minute in their bout at UFC 86.

He could also take on Rafael dos Anjos (15-5), who had an impressive knockout victory over George Sotiropoulos and is 4-1 in his last five bouts.

Chris Leben Defeats Wanderlei Silva by Knockout in the First Round

4 of 5

It only took 27 seconds for the hard-punching Chris Leben to put fan-favorite Wanderlei Silva down and out on the canvas.

Silva was knocked down by an uppercut and took a series of shots before the referee jumped in to save him.

Leben gets a quality victory after losing to Brian Stann earlier this year. That loss followed an impressive 2010 that was a comeback year for Leben.

He got a dream matchup with "The Axe Murderer," an opponent he has wanted to fight for most of his career, and got the win.

So what's next for "The Crippler"?

How about a bout with Vitor Belfort (19-9) if he comes out on top against Yoshihiro Akiyama in July at UFC 133? He can also take on Mark Munoz (11-2), who just defeated Demian Maia last month.

Dominick Cruz Defeats Urijah Faber by Unanimous Decision

5 of 5

After five rounds of bantamweight action, UFC Champion Dominick Cruz (18-1) kept his title with a unanimous decision victory over the only opponent to ever hand him a loss, Urijah Faber (25-5).

It was a close and competitive bout with high-energy and even exchanges throughout. Ultimately, Cruz earned the decision and kept his title in a fight that some thought the challenger had won.

Now, they are both 1-1 against each other so a rubber-match is the most likely scenario in a division that still needs to play itself out in developing other contenders.

Cruz already has wins over top contenders Brian Bowles and Joseph Benavidez, but he may be facing wrestling standout Demetrious Johnson sooner or later.
