David Haye Blames Broken Toe as Cause of Defeat Against Wladimir Klitschko
British heavyweight boxing star David Haye is blaming his broken toe as the main cause of his inability to win the most challenging fight of his career as he failed to engage Wladinmir Klitschko toe-to-toe.
The fightĀ whichĀ took place in Hamburg, Germany Saturday was criticized by boxing fans as one of the most boring fights in recent boxing history as Haye refused to go toe-to-toe with the Ukrainian champion.
After the fight, Haye pointed out that his injured toe stopped him from unleashing his power punches

"I felt I could get past his shots but I couldn't push off my right leg. I broke my toe three weeks ago. I had a local anaesthetic. I couldn't explode off it. I couldn't push off my right foot.
"I was hoping the local anaesthetic would do enough but it didn't. I did everything I could do and I proved my chin."
At one point Haye said he considered pulling out from the fight but it was too late and he said he doesn't want to disappoint the fans.
"It was so frustrating for the biggest fight of my life and this happened. I was thinking about pulling out but I couldn't do it after all the fans had paid all the money."
Haye was hoping Klitschko would come within his range considering his inability to move freely due to his injury but the Ukrainian star put a smart fight.
Philboxing's Ed de la VegaĀ reported the fight was a boring sight to watch as it was apparent what the result would be starting on the eighth round.
But Haye has succeeded in promoting the fight and getting paid a handsome amount for what was billed as the biggest and richest fight in the heavyweight division since 2002.
Haye is expected to get at least $15 million while Haye gets the bigger slice of the fight purse.
Klitschko is coming off a win over Samuel Peter last year in Frankfurt before facing Haye. The heavyweight star has won 13 consecutive times since losing to Lamont Brewster in 2004 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Likewise, Haye is fresh from his victory over countryman Audley Harrison in November last year to retain his WBA heavyweight title.
It was Haye's second loss in 27 professional fights.
