UFC 132 Fight Card: The Best Fighter Quotes Leading Up to UFC 132
UFC 132 goes down Saturday, and it features a highly anticipated title fight between UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (17-1) and former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (25-4). It will be a redemption fight for Cruz, who lost a 2007 bout to Faber. It is the only loss on his record.
Also on the card, middleweight brawlers Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva prepare to slug it out while former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz meets The Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader. Bader is coming off of his first defeat as a professional to Jon Jones while Ortiz hasn't won a fight since 2006.
Other main-card fights include Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim and Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver.
These are some of the best quotes leading up to the fights.
"It’s a Different Thing to See Dominick Against Me at My Best." Urijah Faber
1 of 12“It’s one thing to see Dominick against some pretty good people, and it’s a different thing to see Dominick against me at my best," former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber said at the pre-fight press-conference.
Since losing to Faber in 2007, Cruz has gone 7-0, including three championship bouts. Cruz also has two wins over Faber's training partner Joseph Benavidez.
The bad blood is flowing quite freely between the two, and the war of words ends tomorrow when they enter the cage.
Leading up the fight, Faber hasn't acknowledged the success Cruz has had and he appears to be fully confident that he will have an easy night.
Cruz may be benefiting most from the mind-games, and this could hurt or help Faber come fight night.
"I've Sacrificed Everything Just to Focus on It." Dominick Cruz
2 of 12UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz is 17-1 in MMA and the most successful bantamweight fighter in the world.
His dedication and sacrifices have led him to earning victories over Brian Bowles, Joseph Benavidez and Scott Jorgensen. His two title defenses went the distance and left fans questioning his finishing ability.
While Jorgensen has lost before, he has never been knocked out, and it's standing up where Cruz is at his best. Bowles and Benavidez haven't been defeated by anyone other than the 25-year-old.
“I Kind of Look at It as an Explosion but Somewhat of a Controlled Explosion.”
3 of 12Everybody is expecting a knockout in the upcoming middleweight battle between Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva.
One question that is going to come up is which chin will be the first to go? Both fighters have been knocked out before, but it may be Leben's chin that is holding up the best.
For however long this fight lasts, it's going to provide some fireworks going into the 4th of July holiday.
“I Feel Like I’m Starting Over, and I Don’t Even Want to Feel That Loss Again.”
4 of 12Ryan "Darth" Bader returns to take on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz in a very important fight for his career.
Bader is coming off of his first loss to current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones in February, and it's one he doesn't want to think of when he steps into that cage Saturday night.
Many are expecting Bader to walk over Tito Ortiz, but it may actually turn out to be a closer fight than many expect. How cautious will Bader be knowing he can't lose this fight? Will he try to avoid getting caught or attack Ortiz from the bell? It may ultimately determine who wins this fight.
“I’m Thinking About Getting My Hand Raised. That’s All I’m Thinking About."
5 of 12Tito Ortiz is 15-8 in MMA and hasn't won a fight since 2006 when he defeated Ken Shamrock. He really hasn't had a decent victory since defeating Patrick Cote in 2004. Split-decision victories over Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin followed and they could have gone either way.
Ortiz' last four fights have all gone the distance, and everyone knew early on just how they would turn out.
The first round will be very important in his fight with Ryan Bader. It's almost a guarantee of how the fight will play out so pay attention early.
“I’m Going to Be the Better Fighter, the Better Athlete.” Melvin Guillard
6 of 12Lightweight contender Melvin Guillard enters his bout with Shane Roller on a four-fight win streak, including victories over Evan Dunham, Jeremy Stephens, Waylon Lowe and Ronnys Torres.
His opponent, Roller, is a NCAA Division I wrestler and is coming off of an impressive knockout victory over Thiago Tavares.
With both fighters being on a roll, this fight should be entertaining while it lasts. Guillard has always had the physical tools but has had mental lapses in past fights that have cost him big.
The fight will be televised on Spike TV.
“I Look for It to Be a True MMA Fight.” Brian Bowles
7 of 12Former WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles meets former bantamweight title challenger Takeya Mizugaki in a preliminary bout at UFC 132.
Both are coming off victories in their UFC debuts, and Bowles was the more impressive of the two.
Of all of Bowles' 10 MMA bouts, none have gone the distance. This makes for an exciting fight that fans don't want to miss.
You can watch it as part of the preliminary Facebook bouts.
“I Expect the First Fight Is Going to Be the Best Fight.” Donny Walker
8 of 12Donny Walker and Jeff Houghland both make their UFC debuts tomorrow, and it will be the biggest fight in both of their extensive careers.
Walker is a veteran of 21 bouts since 2004 while Houghland has fought 11 times since 2002. Houghland didn't fight from 2006 to 2010 and was Gilbert Melendez' second opponent.
Walker is currently on a seven-fight win streak. Houghland has gone 4-0 since his return to MMA.
"Should I win, I Will Get a Title Shot." Dennis Siver
9 of 12“This fight is especially important to me because should I win, I will get a title shot," Dennis Siver said in a pre-fight interview.
Siver (18-7) enters his bout with Matt Wiman on a three-fight win streak, including his impressive upset win over George Sotiropoulos earlier this year at UFC 127.
Wiman (13-5) recently defeated Cole Miller and is also on a three-fight win streak.
A title shot may or may not be on the line for Siver, and it really depends on how he looks in this bout. If he comes out and puts Wiman away with a spinning-back kick, he might actually get one.
“What I’ve Done to Defeat Dos Anjos Is What I’ve Done for the Last 3 Months.”
10 of 12It's a battle of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts as George Sotiropoulos and Rafael dos Anjos prepare to engage in a grappling war that has the makings for a fight of the night candidate.
This fight has fans excited, and it features two of the very best grapplers in the lightweight division.
Sotiropoulos comes into the bout extremely confident even though he is coming off a loss. His quote reflects how strongly he feels he will defeat dos Anjos and he insists he already has the job done.
“The Strategy Might Be Obvious—It’s to Take Him Down.” Dong Hyun Kim
11 of 12It may be a bit disappointing to hear Kim say he's going to take Condit down, but it's what everyone is expecting the Korean standout fighter to do.
Dong Hun Kim is an excellent judoka, and fans may get a chance to see him display some of his skills in the Octagon against Condit, who is one of the UFC's most exciting fighters.
This fight could determine the next welterweight challenger, and with Kim being undefeated, has the rare opportunity to take an unblemished record into a championship fight.
“He Should Have a Lot More to Be Nervous About Than I Do.” Carlos Condit
12 of 12Welterweight contender and former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit is called the "Natural Born Killer" and it's because he has been thrilling MMA fans with his fearless fighting style for quite some time.
As seen in his fight Dan Hardy, Condit isn't afraid to engage his opponent where they are strongest at, and it has paid off in 26 of his 31 bouts.
Condit has finished 25 of his opponents, including 13 by submission and 12 by knockout, making him a fan-favorite fighter.
It will be a tough task to finish Kim, let alone beat him, but it's a challenge that he is willing to take to make it to the top.
