Chael Sonnen Goes off on Wanderlei and Antonio Silva, Leaves Anderson out of It
Everyone’s favorite bad guy of MMA, Chael Sonnen, has been pretty quiet on Twitter since he called out former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida about three weeks ago.
As every fight fan knows, though, you can’t keep Uncle Chael quiet for very long.
This time, Sonnen decided to call out an old enemy by the last name of Silva…although it was not the reigning UFC middleweight champion.

Instead, it was Wanderlei Silva, someone who is also no stranger to the verbal venom spewed by Sonnen.
On June 22, the legally troubled middleweight contender said:
“Axe Murderer, my Ass. I'm more intimidated by Axe Body Spay.”
An interesting and unexpected play on words at the very least. Two days later, Sonnen was ready to turn up the heat:
“You beat 22 men in a row over in Japan, and can't beat two straight in the US... Big difference when the ref's not wearing an earpiece.”
Is Sonnen really implying that Pride fights were rigged? He removes any ambiguity from what he meant with his next tweet:
“Wand wins 22 fights in Japan!! In related news, Hulk Hogan pins the Iron Sheik.”
Is this the first time “The Axe Murderer” has ever been compared to “The Real American” Hulk Hogan?
All signs point to yes.
The plot thickens, though, as someone comes out of nowhere to stick up for Wanderlei.
None other than Strikeforce heavyweight Antonio Silva (who, for the record, has no relation to Wanderlei) decided to voice his opinion on the matter.
“Bigfoot” responded to Sonnen with:
"@sonnench who is this guy? Wow, I know who is, he lost to Anderson Silva. yes? Shut up"
Was that enough to keep Sonnen’s mouth closed, for at least a little while?
Of course not:
“Watch yourself Antonio. You think I give a dam that you are a HWT? I've pushed people your size out of the way looking for somebody to fight.”
If nothing else, Sonnen deserves credit for being willing to fight just about anyone.
On a closing note, today (June 29) Sonnen tweeted:
“I can finally get back to the most important thing in my life. Defending my Middleweight Championship.”
Sonnen’s suspension from the California State Athletic Commission has run its course, so it will be interesting to see if he can get licensed anytime soon.
