What was otherwise a lackluster Raw was certainly spiced up in the last five minutes by CM Punk's shoot promo, after costing John Cena his match vs. R-Truth.
For those of you who didn't see it, I highly suggest you watch Punk's promo because it was probably the best thing that has happened in WWE in years.
First off, Punk came out wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt (something superstars never do).
Next, Punk called out Cena for getting to where he is by "kissing Vince McMahon's ass," then said that he does it as well as Hulk Hogan and "Dwayne" (clearly meaning the Rock).
He also said that he is the best wrestler in the world (clearly a shot at WWE "sports entertainers".)
Punk went on to talk about how he was brought over by Paul Heyman, just like Brock Lesnar, and will leave like him.
He then talked about how it is ridiculous that the Rock is headlining WrestleMania 28 and not him.
Punk went on to rant about how he isn't at the top because he doesn't sell merchandise, programs, etc.
Punk took the final step when he said that the company is being run into the ground by Vince McMahon, and that he is the reason why WWE isn't worth billions (he even said New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor by name).
He went as far to say that he wondered if the company would be better if Vince McMahon was dead, and then went on to say that it would be run into the ground by his "idiotic" daughter and stupid family.
Then, his mic was cut off as he still tried to shout his message.
My take: We haven't seen a great shoot interview in years, and this was one of the best I have ever seen.
I don't care if that was conjured up by someone in Creative (which I highly doubt), but you could clearly tell that Punk was speaking from the heart.
It was a breath of fresh air for people like the majority of us that are sick and tired of seeing the same thing week in a week out.
Hell, tonight's Raw was basically the same card as Capitol Punishment (thanks for letting me pay $50 and then get the same thing for free eight days later).
If this was all a work by WWE Creative, then bravo, you guys finally did something to throw off the IWC.
But I expect Punk is primarily working on his own and he deserves all the created in the world for standing up to the WWE juggernaut.
