Rod And Reel Maintenance

One of the most important aspects to a successful fishing trip is keeping up the maintenance of your rods and reels. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve had colleagues tell us about how their favorite fishing gear has deteriorated to the point where they are forced to spend thousands of dollars on new equipment.

However, today things do not look so doom and gloom, as we will be talking about how to keep up with the maintenance for all your equipment. By keeping up with the maintenance, your 10-year-old fishing gear can be used for at least another five years.

Because fishing equipment can be quite expensive, it is important to be in close contact with your local fishing repair shop. Essentially, hundreds of thousands of fly fishing enthusiasts annually take to the water in hopes of finding that big catch that can help them retire. As a result, it seems like a new fishing store opens up every day, trying to sell us a new piece of equipment for an amount out of our price range.

Since new equipment tends to be out of most people’s price ranges, a lot of our colleagues use the same equipment over and over again annually. In order to maintain sans equipment, you must take your equipment into the repair shop at least once a year, just for maintenance purposes. Depending on how often you take your equipment to the shop to get cleaned or repaired, you will most likely pay only a few hundred instead of a few thousand dollars.

Aside from getting your equipment serviced, the best tip to maintaining your equipment is to wash it regularly after each trip. By taking an hour after you get back to thoroughly clean your equipment, you can avoid rust and corrosion build up.

On days when you are unable to make it out to the water, try out some great online fishing games to keep yourself entertained and your skills sharp.
